FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Amazon Expands its Prowess into the Retail Side of Grocery

SAN FRANCISICO – Amazon will now be introducing a free 2-hour delivery service for its “Prime” members in collaboration with Whole Foods, the grocery chain Amazon recently purchased in a $13.7 billion deal.

In select Whole Foods grocery stores in four cities starting today, Prime members will have access to all of the items Whole Foods has, available for free 2-hour delivery as if they went to the store.

This is not Amazon's first push into the grocery industry. Amazon has a division, Amazon Fresh, which focuses on delivering the same items a grocery store would stock with even more items and delivers these goods directly to your door the next day or within a few hours.

This move expands on the many grocery, and miscellaneous items Amazon can already ship to you lightning fast through its Amazon Fresh service which costs $14.99/month on top of the yearly Prime membership cost.

This is just one of Amazon's steps in attempting to establish itself as a staple in the grocery industry, fighting competition from established grocery retailers such as Walmart, which has its own version of grocery pickup meant to compete directly with Amazon.

“Growing at a massive scale requires massive changes, and this purchase of Whole Foods is just one of our steps, ” said John Cheyf, director of Amazon Fresh/Now.

Amazon's ultimate goal is to be the number one stop for any good you may need to buy.

About Amazon: Founded July 5, 1994 by Jeff Bezos, Amazon started out as an online bookstore but slowly grew over time to be the size it is today. With a market cap of about $680 billion, Amazon has grown and expanded rapidly by reinvesting its profit to expand its own services, get more Prime subscriptions and attract new customers.
