Virginia 4-H State Championship Horse and Pony Show

FAQ'S

1. Why can't we have the show in the summer? a. We have explored this option with the Virginia Horse Center on several occasions. Simply put between the USEF schedule which is set several years in advance, the differing school release dates throughout the state and our participation in Southern Regionals, a summer show date is not available for us. This decision also is made with county fair schedules, 4-H Congress and 4-H Camp in mind. We do continually explore the option but for the foreseeable future, it will not happen.

2. Why do we use the Western Judges for Dressage and Hunter Showmanship? a. Showmanship is a class that by industry standards is not typically offered at Hunter and Dressage Shows. The rules pertaining to Dressage and Hunter Showmanship for our show follow the stock horse industry rules. Therefore, so our dressage and hunter exhibitors will have the judge that knows these rules the best, we utilize the western judge.

3. Why are the stall assignme nts not given out prior to the show? a. Our stabling crew works until the wee hours of the morning prior to your arrival to the show because of many changes leading up to arrival. We have over 400 exhibitors at this show and finding the exact location for each county is a HUGE task! This takes many hours, therefore, it is not feasible for us to release them prior to the show. We are working on a process that makes it easier on all those involved.

4. I am bringing two horses to the state show. What if my classes are conflicting with e ach othe r? a. In our rule book, page 11 states that it is up to you to communicate with the division managers and ring crew at BOTH rings. Our crew will work with you but rings WILL NOT be held for you. Reach out to the division managers WAY before your class and let them know it might be an issue. All rules are still to be followed, not matter what. Ultimately, it is your decision if you miss your class.

5. Why can't I park my golf cart ringside? a. Safety is our number one priority! Our EMT staff feel that having golf carts ringside can contribute to horses spooking and our EMTs may need to access the ringside for an emergency situations!

6. How can I volunteer at the show? a. JUST ASK! Come to the show office when you have spare time and we will put you to work!
