Teacher Tip

The menubar is the second row of words across the top of the screen (File, Edit, View, etc.). To access that menu, press the ALT key plus the underlined letter on the menu.

The toolbar(s) are the next row(s) on the screen. (little icons or pictures). These are useless to the blind user and can be turned off if the blind user is the only one using that computer.

Teaching tip

Teach and practice using the numeric keypad for greatest typing efficiency.

Turn off the num lock key by pressing the NUM LOCK key, which is located on the top left of the numeric keypad. The tiny green light above it should be off. (Insert picture here.)

Each window application has keystrokes. You need to know the difference and understand the concept of the keystroke you are performing. This helps in problem-solving—knowing which keystrokes to try when you are not sure what to do.
