Getting Started with United Streaming



Discovery Education Streaming Video

 

Setting up a new Discovery Education streaming account (new teachers only)

1. Open the Internet and in the address bar type

2. In the New User Passcode section, type in the user code for the high school: 1BE1-C573 and click Sign Up. This passcode is for your FIRST use only. You will self-enroll next.

3. Complete all the required information. It is suggested that firstname.lastname.misd be your user name and that you create your own password.

4. Click Continue. Complete all screens and log back in as necessary.

Returning teachers please continue to use your regular log-in and password.

Performing Searches

Begin by clicking the streaming tab at the top of the page

• Keyword Search-most efficient search

• Curriculum Standards Search – select state

• Subject Search – once you select a subject sub categories will appear

• Advanced Search

o Fill in as much info as you wish

o Capable of searching

▪ Editable

▪ Closed Caption

▪ Language

▪ New Titles

▪ Classic Titles

• Grade Search

• Explore –

o Latest news,

o Week in History

Search results can be videos, video segments, assignments,

audio files, images, articles, audio, quizzes, events, lesson plans, or clip art.

Viewing Videos

Hover your mouse over the video to reveal details or hover over segment to get subtitles.

-- Streaming the media is highly recommended instead of downloading the content. 

It should be very fast and almost immediate when you click on a stream.

| |Closed caption allows you to save the video to your computer – |

|[pic] |NOT recommended for videos over 3 minutes. If media is downloaded, it needs to be downloaded to your local machine, |

| |used, and then deleted.  It will take up too much disk space on your computer or campus server if the content is not |

| |deleted once through with it and it can pose possible copyright problems. |

| |Hover the mouse over the [pic] button and right click. |

| |Choose Save Target As. |

| |In the Save in box, navigate to the correct folder. |

| |In the File name box, type a name for the video and click Save. |

| |To play a downloaded video, navigate to the folder where the video clip is located and double click on the file to play.|

| |Add to My Content – stores video titles for later viewing. Adding a video clip to My Content does not download or stream|

|[pic] |the clip. The purpose of My Content is to bookmark the clip so that you do not have to search for it again. |

| |You can get to your content by clicking on the My Content link at the top of the screen. |

Citation Information

Click on the Citations tab for the proper video citation.

When using Discovery Education streaming, the user needs to include citation information for all content used.

Downloading Teachers' Guides and Blackline Masters.

Many streaming™ titles come with Teacher's Guides and Blackline Masters.

These supplementary materials may be viewed by simply clicking on the Related Materials tab.

Return to Discovery Education streaming Home Screen

Click Home in the top navigation bar to return to the main page.

Click on Teacher Center to make the most of streaming content with these tools and resources.
