MORNINGLet’s get started challengeStart the morning with Joe WicksMaths Learning objective: Can I learn how to spell the words for any number to 20?Can I learn how to spell the words for any numbers to 100? Introduction:In year 2 you need to be able to write the words for any number to 100.Today we will recap writing the words for the numbers to 20 and if you can to 100.Some number words can be sounded out, such as 10 ten. Others have to be just learnt, such as 1 one and 2 two because they don’t fit a spelling pattern.Start by having a quiz. How many number words do you know already, if you know them you won’t have to learn them again!Use the sheet below to see what you can remember. Fill in the first column.If you have made some mistakes use the sheet of number words to help you copy them out until you know them.If you know them all move onto the next challenge- to learn the words for 10, 20 etc. Test yourself on these to see what you know.If you have made mistakes practise those. If you haven’t move onto the activity. TOP TIP: if you have made more than 4 mistakes in the first quiz concentrate on just learning the number words to 20. English Learning objective: Can I write a postcard?Can I add detail to make it more interesting? IntroductionToday read the letter on page 12 of ‘The Elves and The Shoemaker’ pack.Think about how a letter is different to a story?Mr and Mrs Cobbler have been busy in the shop but what do you think Clary, Pepper and Jas have been up to? Imagine you are one of the elves and think about what you have been doing. Maybe you have been helping out in another shop or maybe you have been on holiday! If you can, share your ideas with a grown up. Remember to add detail to your ideas, such as adjectives or humour to make it more interesting to read. Activity : Fill in the postcard on page 13 or write on your own piece of paperRemember think it, say it, write it, check it. TODAY WILL BE A ROUGH DRAFT – KEEP IT FOR TOMORROW. Top Tip: When you check your work make sure you have used capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks correctly. Have you used the spelling rules you know? Introduction:Today we will be finding out if you can remember the spelling words you learnt on Tuesday. Test yourself on:findkindmindbehindIf you are still finding these spellings tricky practise them again.If you are confident in them embed your understanding of them by playing a game.Activity If you do know them get ready to play a game. First cut up 8 pieces of paper or card, big enough to write one word on each piece. Then write one word on each piece and do this twice until you have each word written twice. Alternatively print off words below Next choose a game to play:SnapTreasure hunt- ask a grown up to hide them round the house or garden and try to find them and match them into pairs.Pairs Lunchtime!AFTERNOON Reading Read at least 3 pages of a book. Topic Learning objective: Can I think about what makes me special and use these ideas to decorate my own special box or bag? Introduction This term our topic is ‘The Special Box’.By the end of term we will have made our own special box/ bag with memories of this time in your life. Today we will be preparing the box or bag. A box needs to be at least as big as a small plastic takeaway container.Have a think about what makes you special and that could help you to decorate your bag or box. Here are some things to think about:Favourite coloursFavourite things e.g. natural objects, toysFavourite activities e.g. Lego, football, paintingFor further ideas you may like to look at the powerpoint downloaded onto the home learning page or find it here: ActivityGet busy! Decorate your box or bag to show that it is special to you.Send me a picture – could I guess it was yours I wonder?Over the next few weeks we will be adding things to the box. If you can find a recent family photo which you can put in your box/ bag to start you off.
