-Common themes throughout history

-The social, political, and economic institutions of prominent countries

-Individual responsibility

-How to make reasoned and informed decisions

-How to think critically and ask important questions

-The significant relationships between the past and the present

Course Policies and Procedures:

The following policies and procedures will be in effect at all times. Violations will be handled on an individual basis, including detention, parent conferences, and if needed, an administrator will be brought in if the behavior is not corrected.

1. Students will be tolerant and open-minded. The classroom will act as a “safe space” where students can participate freely and share their opinions with their peers without fear. What is discussed in the classroom will remain in the classroom. Students will not be judged or ridiculed.

2. Students will come prepared and ready to learn. You are expected to enter class every day, on time, and prepared. You will need your book, notebook, pencils, and pens every day. There will be periodic quizzes over the reading material and assigned vocabulary pertaining to the standards covered in class; therefore it is your responsibility to keep up with the reading and other assignments.

3. Respect. Respect the opinions of your peers, teachers, and faculty. To gain respect, you must first respect others. I will not tolerate disrespect towards other students, staff, or me.

4. Do your own work. Cheating will not be tolerated. Students can work cooperatively, but it is expected that students will do their own work.

Daily Procedures:

1. Be in your assigned seat at or before the bell.

2. You will remain in your seat until the bell rings. The bell tells me class is over. Do not start lining up early.

3. Begin working on assignment; every class will begin with an activity at the beginning of the class period.

4. Cell phones will be left in your bag during class. I will let you know if cell phones can be used for academic purpose.

5. No sleeping. You are expected to stay awake, take notes and be an active student in class.

6. Follow the school dress code.

7. Personal needs should be addressed before class, including a visit to the vending machine or the restroom.

8. Do not leave trash in the classroom. I do not mind if you choose to eat a healthy snack during class or a drink with a lid. And ALWAYS clean up after yourself!!!!!

9. Always give your very best effort every day in class.

10. Follow all Pope High School and Cobb County District policies.

Late Work:

Any assignment that is not turned in on its due date will be considered late and will only receive half credit when turned in. Failure to turn in assignments by the day of the unit exam will result in a ZERO! No work will be accepted after that grading period is over.

Make-up Work:

It is your responsibility to ask for assignments and to reschedule tests if you are absent. If you are absent, check blog for any work or assignments. Students need to make up any missed tests in a timely manner. We are flexible but students need to communicate and let us know.

Grading Policies:

-Major Grades 50% Includes unit tests and individual projects

-Minor Grades 30% Includes quizzes, classwork, group assignments, vocabulary cards

-Mid-term/Final 20% Covers all material presented in the class

Test days: Our tests days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Plan ahead to make sure you are here for test days.
