Micro-MOL

Update

When using MICRO-MOL during the summer months, please be advised that you should not let MICRO-MOL dry on the grass blade. Temperatures over 80°F may cause some discoloration of the grass blade. As long as it is watered in after each spray, you will still achieve the same great results which you had during the cooler months.

As previously stated, it is recommended that you do not mix different MOL Product together. However, MOL products CAN be mixed with other chemicals in your spray tank; yet, we do highly recommend that you do a “Jar Test” before mixing to ensure they are compatible.

MOL News goes Bi-Monthly

Effective this issue, the MOL News Newsletter will be published bi-monthly. Gary’s busy summer schedule has limited his time to be able to provide enough informative information to pass along to our readers. The next issue will be Issue 5, July-August 2004.

Business is Booming!!

To date we have bottled and sold more than double the amount of product than we did in the past year and we’re only half way through the year. Orders continue to come in daily! We would like to extend our gratitude to all of our new customers this year for giving MOL products a chance. Your business is greatly appreciated.

SPORTSAGGREGATES has moved in order to be able to warehouse more product and better serve our customers. Our new address and phone numbers are listed on page 3.

UPCOMING EVENTS

At the request of some of our customers, a mini-seminar is currently being planned for the October time frame. Superintendents will visit the Pete Dye Club, located in Bridgeport, West Virginia, to view the results of 8 plus years of MOL product usage and personally speak with Gary Grandstaff, and if it can be arranged, Dick Psolla. You will be able to go over the course, take your own core samples, and review the spray records for the past several years. The seminar will be held sometime during the second or third week of October (dates to be announced in the upcoming issues). Space is very limited. To reserve your space, call Shirley Grandstaff at 304-629-0527 or e-mail MOLNews@. If you prefer, you may notify your distributor of your request for invitation to the October Mini-Seminar at The Pete Dye Club. Invitations will sent out on a “first come, first serve” basis.

A new and improved website is under construction and is expected to be ready for access Winter 2004. You can find us currently at i-.

WEATHER FORECAST

HOT! Thunderstorms that dump .25 to .50 inch of rain in 10 minutes making your irrigation system obsolete since the low spots are saturated while the high spots are dry. May 14th and everyone is hand watering! That’s what they are doing in Phoenix this time of year, not in the western Mid-Atlantic area. Well, I guess this is just practice for the summer. Our head “Hand Waterer” has been so busy that he has had to train someone else just to get the job done.

LOOK OUT! We have already seen some of that dollar spot that burns a hole through your turf right down to the soil. Next writing it will be summer. I wonder what I’ll have to complain about then?

Q & A CORNER

(Questions and comments from our readers)

As promised in our last issue,

your questions have been answered by

Dick Psolla, Soil Consultant

Q. By applying phosphorous, will my poa anna increase? (Maryland)

A. The application of phosphorous doesn’t increase the population of poa anna. However, because poa anna is a shallow rooted plant, it does respond to the application of phosphorous. I know one thing for sure, on new greens where mixes are not tested and superintendents starve the parent plants just to prevent the infiltration of poa anna, it doesn’t work. If you don’t have adequate phosphorous to grow in the parent plants then the poa anna will fill in.

Q. I had worked on a course that was using one of the MOL products. We developed a ferry ring problem that we had never had before. Could the MOL product have caused this, and if so, why? (Georgia)

A. Ferry ring fungi works on decaying organic matter. If the organic matter was brought in during construction and is now decomposing, they will appear and there is no way to stop it.

Q. I’ve been hearing a lot on these new MOL products. I’ve talked to a couple of superintendents that have started using the product and seem to like the results that they are getting. I’m on a course in the Phoenix area. How would this product work with the new bent grasses? I have A-4 on my greens. Also, how would it work with Bermuda and over-seeded rye grass fairways in the winter months? Would it still work on thatch reduction and would I get any improvement in the color of the grass? (Arizona)

A. MOL products will work even better in a climate where you have warm soil temperatures year round. They would work on all of your grasses and continue to work on your thatch problem. They would also help to improve the color of your grass.
