You asked for the following information from the Ministry of Justice:

Between 25th August 2000 and 4th April 2005;

i- how many people were convicted of making/distributing indecent images of children after pleading guilty?

ii- how many of these people were given a custodial sentence after pleading guilty?

iii- how many were given a non-custodial sentence?

iv- of those given a custodial sentence, how many were sentenced to up

to (a) 1 year prison, (b) up to 2 years prison, (c) over 2 years prison?

v- of those given a custodial sentence after pleading guilty, how many were also sentenced to an extended period of licence?

vi- if a licence was imposed how many were for (a) up to 1 year, (b) up to 2 years, (c) up to 3 years?

The number of persons convicted and sentenced at the Crown Court who pleaded guilty for the offence of “Take, permit to be taken or to make distribute or publish indecent photographs or pseudo - photographs of children”, including individuals that received an extended period of licence between 25th August 2000 and 4th April 2005 in England and Wales can be viewed in the table.

Please note that persons given a non custodial sentence can include the following disposals:

• Community Sentence

• Suspended Sentence Order

• Fine

• Conditional Discharge

• Absolute Discharge

• Otherwise dealt with disposal – This category includes: one day in police cells; disqualification order; restraining order; confiscation order; travel restriction order; disqualification from driving; recommendation for deportation; and other miscellaneous disposals.
