STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE SHAKER REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

WARRANT

For Annual District Meeting March 17, 1973

To the inhabitants of the pre-existing school districts of Belmont and Canterbury comprising the Shaker Regional School District, qualified to vote in Shaker Regional School District affairs:

You are hereby notified to meet at the Belmont High School Cafeteria on the 17th day of March 1973 at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon, to act on the following subjects

Article I. To choose a Moderator for the ensuing year.

Article II. To choose, by ballot, two school board members one each from the pre-existing districts of Belmont and Canterbury to serve for a term of three years. One elected candidate must be a resident of Belmont and one elected candidate must be a resident of Canterbury but all candidates will be elected at large.

Article III. To see if the District will vote to have the New Hampshire State Tax Commission audit the financial accounts of the District for the school year 1972-73, or, in the alternative, to choose one or more auditors for the ensuing year.

Article IV. To hear the reports of Agents, Auditors, Committees, or Officers chosen, and pass any vote relating thereto.

Article V. To see if the District will vote to authorize the School Board to make application for and to accept on behalf of the District any and all advances, grants, or other funds for educational purposes which may? now or hereafter be forthcoming from the United States of America, or the State of New Hampshire, or any Federal or State Agency.

Article VI. To see if the District will vote to authorize the school board to sell a parcel of land, owned by the district, of approxiImately 2000 square feet located on the north westerly cor-

ner of the school property in Canterbury and adjacent to the New England Tel. & Tel. Co., for the price of $1,000.00. The proceeds thereof shall be credited to each pre-existing district in the same proportion as the costs of making capital improvements are credited.

Article VII. To see if the School District will appropriate and raise the sum of $6,000.00 for the purchase of approximately seven acres of land located easterly and adjacent to the school property in Canterbury, with 330 feet of frontage on Baptist Road.

Article VIII. To see if the School District will appropriate and raise the sum of $16,500.00 for the purchase of approximately one and one-half (11;2) acres of land and building located on Concord Street in Belmont, which extends to the arking area of the Belmont High School and is known as the Maude B. Browne property.

Article IX. To see what sum of money the District will raise and appropriate for the support of schools, the salaries of school district officials and agents, and for the payment of statutory obligations of said district, and to authorize the application against said approriation of such sums as are estimated to be raised from the State's equalization and building aid funds, together with other income; the School Board to certify to the selectmen of each of the towns of Belmont and Canterbury the amount to be raised by taxation by each of said towns.

Article X. To transact any other business that may legally come before the meeting.

Given under our hands at said Belmont this 28th day of February 1973.

ANNUAL MEETING

March 18, 1972

The annual school district meeting of the Shaker Regional School District was held at Belmont High School March 18, 1972. Meeting was opened at 2 :00 p.m. by Moderator Norman Bolduc with the reading of the warrant.

Article I. Motion by Verne Bryant, seconded from the floor, to postpone action on Articles I and II until after discussion of warrant. Motion carried.

Article III. Motion by Louis Wuelper, seconded by Robert Stevens to have New Hampshire State Tax Commission audit the financial accounts of the District for the school year 1971-72. Motion carried.

Article IV. Motion by Mrs. Wingate, seconded by Mrs. Wuelper to accept reports printed in report. Motion carried.

Article V. Motion by Stanley Hill, seconded by Kurt Wuelper authorizing the School Board to make application for and to accept on behalf of the District any and all advances, grants, or other funds for educational purposes which may now or hereafter be forthcoming from the United States of America, or the State of New Hampshire, or any Federal or State Agency. Mr. Burnside asked if any funds involved were matching funds. Motion carried.

Article VI. Motion by James Rhodes, seconded by Mr. Wuelper, authorizing the District to raise and appropriate for water meters the sum of $2,096. Motion carried.

Article VII. Motion by Robert Lockwood, seconded by Mr. Wuelper, the District raise and appropriate the sum of $843,552.21 for the support of schools, the salaries of school district officials and agents, and for the payment of statutory obligations of said district, and to authorize the application against said appropriation of such sums as are estimated to be raised from the State's equalization and building aid funds together with other income; and that the School Board be directed to certify to appropriate public officials of each of the pre-existing districts of Belmont and Canterbury the amount to be raised by taxation in each of said pre-existing districts.

in Article VI.

The foregoing motion was withdrawn. Motion by Mr. Lockwood, seconded by Mr. Wuelper, the district raise and appropriate the sum of $841,456. 21 Total Budget. This motion carried.

Motion by Mr. Lockwood, seconded by Mr. Wuelper, the District raise and appropriate the sum of 843,552.21, which includes the amount voted in Article VI. This motion carried.

Article VIII. Motion by Mr. Rhodes, seconded by Mr. Butterfield, to give Mrs. Shirley Casey and Mrs. Lena Thomas, who have a combined total of 91 years of teaching, a standing ovation. Motion carried.

Mr. Lockwood moved the following resolution: "Resolved that whereas Ronald Smock, a sophomore at Belmont High School, won the New Hampshire State Basketball Foul Shooting Championship for Class M, and whereas the Shaker Regional School Board wishes to recognize this outstanding achievement by Ronald Smock and the credit he has brought to our communities, therefore be it resolved that the Shaker Regional School District vote to spread its recognition of Ronald Smock's achievement on the minutes of the meeting." This motion was seconded by Mr. Butterfield and carried. Mrs. Hawkes asked meeting to consider another special class next year. Recommendation - a man trained in Vocational Education.

Mr. Burnside - has the School Board given any thought to a 12-month school year.

Revert to Articles I and II.

Motion by Verne Bryant, seconded by Mrs. Bilodeau, to keep polls open one hour. This motion carried.
