MISSION (your job)
Your mission is to write a persuasive letter and create an attractive poster to send to the President of the United States requesting a national holiday for a famous person. First you will select a famous person to research and become knowledgeable about. Then you will write a letter that will persuade (convince) the President and Congress to create a holiday. Finally, you will create an attractive poster using Publisher to go with your letter. Your poster will summarize the person’s accomplishments.
LETTER
Your letter will need to include the following information about your famous person:
□ Date of birth
□ Date of death (if they have died)
□ Brief summary of their life
□ Major accomplishments
□ Any challenges overcome
□ Any other facts that will convince the President that your person deserves this honor
Your letter will also need to be written persuasively and show organization, ideas, and strong voice. There should be no spelling or grammar errors. It will be written in business letter format on a word processor.
POSTER
Your poster will include:
□ Colorful pictures
□ Major accomplishments in a list
□ Attractive use of Word Art, borders, fonts and colors
□ Generous “white space”
□ Any other design features you can think of to get your point across
