Tiger Times Volume 1Good Afternoon Tigerific Families, You are receiving this email because you have a child that attends Tracey’s Elementary, work at Tracey’s Elementary or have expressed interest in receiving the information in this email. Welcome new Tracey’s families and returning families. I am extremely honored and happy to join the Tracey’s community as the new principal. I am looking forward to working with our dynamic staff, dedicated parents, and involved community members. Most of all, I look forward to working with your children and continuing the outstanding work that is taking place at Tracey’s Elementary. I know that Tracey’s has a history of great administrators and leaders. I fully understand that I have big shoes to fill. Rest assured that my goal will be to continue to build on what everyone has worked so hard to achieve, and to use that strong foundation to keep Tracey’s Elementary roaring. Together, we will continue to provide outstanding educational opportunities and academic excellence for all students. As a wife and a parent of a little girl, I recognize the importance of family and having a strong home-school connection. I believe family always comes first, and that parents are every child’s first teacher. I also believe that by working together, we can make sure that your child’s social, emotional, and academic needs are met. Before joining Tracey’s Elementary, I served in a variety of teaching and educational leadership roles. Some of the roles I have held were teaching both primary and intermediate grades, Behavioral Specialist in Annapolis, Assistant Principal at Solley Elementary, and lastly Principal at Severn Elementary. My academic background includes a Master of Arts in Administration and Supervision, and a Bachelor of Science in Early and Elementary Education. I believe that great schools are the results of great teachers and creating positive relationships with students, parents, and community members. The elementary school years are an important and critical time for students. What happens during these years will have a lasting impression on their growth and development. My goal is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a school environment that is safe and respectable for our students to receive the best possible academic instruction. I am confident that our school will continue to be a place where your children can learn and grow academically and socially.TRACEY’S is off to a GREAT start:This week we welcomed 432 students in grades Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. Teachers at each grade level met our students in the GYM and greeted them with open arms. The families of our Kindergarten students had a chance to meet with their child’s new teacher and they are starting their academic career with a staggered entrance. This year our teachers will continue to challenge and engage all students in reading, math, science, social studies, art, music, physical education, and Spanish. What makes Tracey’s even more AWESOME is we are also a PYP School. The IB Primary Years Program (PYP) provides the knowledge, concepts, skills personal attributes and the capacity to take action, all of which younger students need to equip them for successful lives. Learning through inquiry, a child’s investigations across and beyond subject areas will strengthen knowledge and understanding as they explore global, topical and relevant “big picture” questions, or transdisciplinary themes. The PYP provides an ideal foundation for children to become successful, lifelong learners by developing their:social and emotional well-beingindependence, as they take responsibility for their own learninginternational mindednessunderstanding of the world and their ability to function effectively within itattitudes and dispositions for learningability to take mindful, appropriate and sustainable student-initiated actionlanguage skills; all students study an additional language from at least 7 years of age.Learning in the PYP is underpinned by?six transdisciplinary themes, each selected for their relevance to the real world. Young learners explore the commonalities of human experience by investigating these themes through a program of inquiry.Back to School Night:This year back to school night is being held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 6 PM. We will meet in the cafeteria for a brief overview of the school year and then parents/guardians will have the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and find out what exciting opportunities they will be learning about this year. We will have two sessions for families to meet teachers, to help accommodate families with more than one student. This is an excellent way to find out what is happening at Tracey’s Elementary this year. At Back to School Night we will have a translator if needed. Please makes sure to stop by our PTA table. We will have PTA Membership, Volunteer and Business Membership Forms available. The Sassy Shop will also be here with Spirit Wear Samples and directions on how to order. Want to order before Back to School Night? Shop online at shop.html & select Tracey’s Elementary. All orders placed by September 14th will be delivered on September 20th. Morning Procedures:I want to thank all families that have been patient with us as we try to figure out the safest way for our car riders in the morning. With our increased enrollment safety is our number one importance. Please note that the doors open for school at 9:05AM. If your child is a car rider, we are having our vehicles “snake” through the parking lot, to avoid a backup on Deale Rd. and Route 2. We don’t want to have any fender benders. So, thank you to our car rider families for working with us!Tracey’s Focus this year:The Tracey's Elementary School community is dedicated to inspiring a love of learning that empowers each child to become inquisitive, reflective, and academically successful students so that they can be productive members of the global community.?In order to achieve our vision, we will:Establish and maintain a respectful climate that promotes life-long learning;Implement inquiry-based instruction that is challenging and engaging;Provide opportunities for collaboration and reflective learning;Utilize a variety of authentic assessments to facilitate and guide instruction; andDevelop positive relationships in school and with the community so that students are supported to grow as learners.PTA News Happy New School Year from the Tracey's PTA! We will be approving the budget for the school year, as well as discussing APEX Fun Run and other events for the year.PTA 2018-2019 Forms - Membership, Volunteer and Business Memberships PTA Forms, including Membership, Volunteer and Business Membership, went home with students this week. If you did not receive one, please use the link below or stop by the PTA Bulletin Board outside of the office to pick one up. We will also have these forms at Back to School Night. We are offering some new options on the PTA Membership form this year. Many parents/grandparents have expressed interest in being able to make a donation that goes directly to the PTA, as opposed to a fundraiser where we receive a portion of the sale. On the PTA Membership form you will see a line for “PTA Donation” – this is a way to make your donation to the PTA at the beginning of the year. All donations, unless you indicate otherwise, will go towards new Chromebooks for the school. We are also raising funds for our annual Tracey’s Scholarship that is given each year to a graduating senior from Southern High School that attended Tracey’s. Last year our scholarship was $500, and we would like to increase this amount for future scholarship recipients. Please indicate if you would like to donate to either or both of the PTA Donation and Scholarship Donation and add that to your PTA Membership dues. Feel free to email us with any questions – tracyspta@Last year our PTA Membership was 100 - we would love to increase this year’s participation to 200 members!
