Students’ work is reviewed prior to the presentation of the Senior Capstone Project, a solo exhibition. It must contain work done predominantly during semester 1 of senior year, and should seek to extend and exemplify the commitment and potential of each student through their established skill sets as artists. The scope of work is selected, designed and implemented by the student. Final assessment is based on the development of an artistic process portfolio and the merits of the work as presented at the exhibition. Honors Senior Capstone Collaborative Exhibition/PerformanceThis required course provides the PVA senior with the support to conceive, create and produce an original collaborative performance, artwork or exhibition (Production, art exhibit, ensemble musical or dance performance, recitation, design exhibit, film screening). Students’ work review occurs throughout the course, followed by a final review prior to the presentation of the Senior Capstone project collaborative exhibition/performance. The capstone must contain work done predominantly during the second semester of senior year, and should explore the students’ potential as a pre-professional, collaborative artist. The performance or exhibition is selected, designed and constructed by the student in collaboration with other student artists and/or professional artists or art companies. Individual final assessment is primarily based on the development of an artistic process portfolio documenting each student’s contributions to the overall project.PVA CAPSTONE VISION:To create solo and collaborative products that extend and showcase the commitment and potential of each student through their skill sets as artists. Student will share their bi-weekly progress reflections and engage in daily check-ins with their advisor at the beginning and end of each class. In addition to these informal updates, student will schedule a minimum of 2 formal meetings with their Advisor and 3 formal meetings with the Production Manager: 1. Introduction and initial project overview; 2. Mid-way update Advisor Meetings for detailed critique during the implementation process; 3. A final check-in during the weeks before load-in/tech.FestivalsAll students must showcase their work at the end of each semester.Students must be ready to present on any one of the days listed above at any of the times slotted until they are assigned a date and time. We cannot guarantee the time requested by the student. The maximum each ST39 festival can hold is 40 presentations and thus students are not guaranteed their requested presentation dates.Students may request spaces in ST39; however, students are not guaranteed the location they request in ST39. You must be an audience member and critique at least two works at each of the Capstone festivals.Students must be available and prepared to set up their work and strike their work. A set up and strike guide will be provided by the production manager and teacher for each student. Failure to setup and strike the entire Studio appropriately will be reflected in the students grade (this includes shared food tables, common spaces, etc.). Students must check with teachers before departure. Students must arrive a minimum of an hour prior to their showcase and check in with their advisor and production manager. Tech Tech time is scheduled by your teacher and the production manager. Whatever you show at the tech will be what is showcased at the festival. Tech will happen approximately 2 weeks prior to the showcase. Production Production will not build or create anything that may be considered a part of the artistic creation. If students require an adult to help with the production or set up of their piece (lighting designer, sound engineer, accompanist, etc.), they must state this in their proposal. Students must provide the professionals with all information and materials needed for their piece a minimum of 2 weeks prior to tech for the festival. Failure to respect the professionals time will result in the loss of resources. All materials requested will take a minimum of 2 weeks to get in and must be purchased from an approved vendor. Be aware that not all requested materials will be able to be purchased by PVA due to AACPS rules and regulations. Budget/EquipmentAll budgets will be standardized to ensure equity. The only way to acquire extra money would be to negotiate with other students who are not using their budget during the same festival. This exchange must be approved by the teachers and production manager. Students and parents cannot be reimbursed for materials purchased on their own. It is strongly recommended that students and parents do not purchase supplies for Capstone. Students have many resources at ST39; however, students may use their own personal equipment for their Capstone showcase but will be required to bring it to class. Equipment, costumes, frames, lighting, props and other supplemental materials purchased for the senior Capstone are property of PVA AACPS, and students must return these items at the conclusion of the class regardless if they were purchased with the student budget specifically for a specific Capstone. Content The length and substance of the student showcase is determined by the student and the advisor and sometimes by the PVA Department Chairs at AHS and BHS and the Studio 39 Administrator. Students will complete a work day calendar and a daily studio space location (when in person) and share it with their advisor and production manager. ST39 production will provide general marketing for the event and posters will be designed by PVA students. Students may market their own senior Capstone; however, it must include the PVA program name and include the PVA logo, and it must be approved by the production manager and Assistant Principal of ST39. Grading Student proposals must be approved by the Capstone teaching team prior to moving forward. Students may re-submit their projects until they are approved; however, student’s grades will not be changed as the proposal is a multi-component research project is ineligible to redo per County policy. Teacher facilitated re-teaching is recommended before a student uses his or her opportunities for mastery (re-do) but is not required. Students must complete and submit re-do assignments within 10 school days of receiving returned original graded work and the highest score earned will be recorded. For re-dos, the teacher may elect to create an alternative assessment that measures student mastery of the same content standards. After an opportunity to re-do for mastery has been submitted, the higher grade will be the grade of record.Attendance/Tardiness:IF YOU ARE ABSENT, PLEASE CONTACT your advisor within Senior Capstone (emails above) to receive your make up work. If you know you will be absent in advance please be sure to reach out to your advisor to let them know. All efforts will be made to facilitate students when absent. Please make prior arrangements, if possible, to collect work from the instructor for days that are to be missed.Recording of Grades and Communication with Parents:Per AACPS regulation, all grades, with the exception of lengthy assignments such as projects and extended writing assignments, will be entered into Parent Connect within one week of assignment submission. Parents can check Parent Connect regularly to monitor student grades. Academic Integrity:Annapolis High School emphasizes personal, social, and technical academic integrity by ensuring that student work, either individual or collaborative, is valued and others’ work is appropriately acknowledged. Academic dishonesty is a violation of the Code of Student Conduct. Students will receive discipline consequences and will receive a zero for any incidents of academic dishonesty.Driving to Studio 39:Transportation is provided to the Studio and back to your homeschool before regular school dismissal. Students that wish to drive to Studio 39 for 3A-4A must first have an assigned parking spot at the homeschool, then complete the Studio 39 driving form and pay the Studio 39 parking fee. All documents and fees must be turned in and approved by Administration at Studio 39 before permission is granted to drive.
