Course Description

Algebra II is a course designed to continue the development of the mathematical skills and symbolic reasoning learned in Algebra I. The course prepares students to use advanced algebraic concepts and skills confidently in mathematics and other related disciplines.

Algebra II is designed as a preparatory course for Pre-Calculus. It is recommended that students have prior credit for Geometry; prior credit for Algebra I is required.

Evaluation

The first/third term grade is 43% of the semester average, the second/fourth term is 42% and the final exam is 15% of the semester average*. Term grades are determined by major grades and daily grades.

*The End of Course STAAR Exam will account for 15% of the final course grade for those students required to take it.

At least three major grades and at least six daily grades will determine the nine-week (term) grade. Daily grades may include graded homework, homework checks, homework quizzes, quizzes, class work, small group work, etc. Major grades may include tests and projects. The major grade average will count for 50% and the daily grade average will count 50% of the nine weeks (term) average. There will be a homework grade approximately every three weeks.

• Graph paper (available on the website)

• College ruled notebook paper

• Graphing Calculator (TI-83+ or TI-84 recommended) – These can be purchased or checked out. See your teacher for forms.

• Folder / Binder for worksheets, #2 pencils, notebook paper, good eraser(s).

• Kleenex and hand sanitizer

• 4-function calculator and scientific calculator (TI-30 X II S recommended)
