Position OverviewThe role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas. The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests. The Protocol, Consular and Passport Officer provides a range of support services to Australian diplomats and facilitates communications with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local authorities. The position also provides consular and passport services to Australian citizens living and travelling in Brazil. The position is part of the Corporate team and also assists with HR functions at the Embassy.The key responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:Manage all protocol matters including Australian and Brazilian requirements for the arrival and departure of Australian diplomats. Liaise with local authorities to arrange employment visas, Diplomatic Identify Cards, and officers’ household effects.Manage the Embassy’s Third Person Note procedure and system, including preparing drafts when required.Develop and maintain a strong network of key contacts with local authorities and organisations relating to protocol, consular and passport matters.Under limited guidance, proactively provide a range of consular and passport services to Australian citizens in accordance with departmental guidelines and relevant legislations, including timely reporting of cases and statistics.Provide timely and accurate advice on consular and passport enquiries, including in person, by telephone and by mail.Provide timely and accurate advice to Post Management on changes in local legislations and decrees in relation to Brazil’s domestic situation, borders, and other related matters.
