MINUTES OF THE CHARLOTTE COUNTY ELECTORAL BOARDAUGUST 9, 2019The Charlotte County Electoral Board met at the Registrar’s Office at 9:00a.m. Present were: Glenwood Foster, Chair; Lawrence Clark, Vice-Chair, and Robert Bradner, Secretary.The meeting was called to order by the Chair. The Chair led the Pledge of Allegiance and offered a prayer.Former EB member, Sandra Marston, was recognized by the Chair.There were no public comments.Minutes of the July 10 and July 23, 2019 meetings were read and approved.OLD BUSINESSThe Chair and Vice-Chair reported on their efforts thus far in the Board’s making a determination on the Bacon-Saxe Precinct location. They have met with Mr. Robbie Mason, Acting Superintendent of the Charlotte County school system. He will write election day into the school calendar as a work day next year. They will not be able to accommodate June elections. They did not discuss March primaries or special elections. The EB will have to appear before the School Board with any final requests.The Chair spoke to business owners in the Saxe area. No locations resulted.The Chair measured the distances from the ends of the district to both Saxe and Bacon District School. Saxe is centrally located while the school is very much toward the lower part.There would be a long walk for voters from parking to the voting place.People who have restraining orders against them for school property cannot be kept from a voting place.The EB knows that student safety is its first obligation to the community if a school is used as a voting place.Other churches in the Saxe area will be contacted.Parking issues and other areas of concern will be discussed further at a meeting on the location of the present voting site before our September meeting.The Chair will contact the Bacon District principal to see if a visit can be arranged for the week of August 19.Page 1 of 2, Charlotte County EB Minutes of August 9, 2019The Registrar will be in a meeting with other Registrar’s next week and will gather information on stipends paid poll workers at the time. She will report back at the September meeting.The Registrar has not had a meeting with the county maintenance supervisor concerning the handling of voting machines during transport on election day. She will report on this at the September meeting.NEW BUSINESSThe Vice-Chair reported on the meeting of August 7, 2019 at which the Demtech machine was demonstrated. No problems have been seen as a result of the two demonstrations witnessed by EB members and Ms. Lambert.
