Biome Project

My Biome: ____________________________ A.P. Environmental Science

Purpose: Identify biomes based on environmental factors and native organisms.

Guidelines: Within your group (2-3 students) you will research biotic and abiotic factors of a chosen biome. The information will be presented in such a way to create a travel advertisement that will attract visitors to the biome. You will create BOTH a trifold to use during your 6-8 minute presentation and a flyer, which will be copied and distributed to the class. As always, you will be timed on your presentation.

• You may draw organisms, take pictures from magazines, or use clip art from web sites. The following web sites may be of use to you:

• You may use any reliable search engine with your biome entered as key words. Remember, NO Wikipedia!

What to include on trifold and flyer:

1. Your names

2. Name of your biome:

a. Create BOTH an interesting title AND a logo (small, artistic design/symbol) that represents your biome.

3. Regions of the world – you may include a map

4. Abiotic Factors (3): including temperature and precipitation information

a. Climatograph– will show average temperature/precipitation for each month

5. Major producers and consumers, including:

a. An example food web

b. Adaptations that allow the organisms to live here

6. Attractions/Tour Packages – pick a location

a. Advertise your biome’s recreational activities

b. Publicize points of interest

c. Calculate the cost to travel to your biome from Newark, NJ (include airfare and hotel accommodations; cost of recreational activities)

d. What should students bring with them (ie. clothing, footwear, personal items) on this trip?

7. Environmental concerns/threats/problems

a. What caused these problems?

b. Are there any endangered species?

c. Remember: You want to advertise your area while still drawing attention to some of the problems!

You will have time on ________________________ to work on this in class.

Flyer will be due on ____________________________________________. I will make copies of the flyers for all members of the class.

Presentations will start ______________________________.
