Activity 28: My Budget
Essential Learning Skills: create a budget spreadsheet to keep track of income and expenses on a monthly basis and use several functions and formulas from previous activities, such as fill down, fill right, currency, formatting a spreadsheet, adjusting numbers and data, formatting portrait, gridlines, footers, and using function icons, etc.
1. Open a new spreadsheet file and set up a six month sheet with the following headings. Substitute appropriate text for “source 1” and other cells the other cells. Do not type the words, “source 1, source 2, etc!!!! You will provide your own sources of income and expenses. Depending on the number of income and expense sources that you have, you may need more rows than are displayed below. Your six month time period can run form January to June or July to December. Enter your data; estimate where you need to.
2. Add Functions and Formulas
o You might review Activity #26 before proceeding.
o Find the Grand Total: In cell H2, type the formula that will find the sum of your 1st source of income. Copy and paste this formula to the other cells that will use the equivalent calculation.
o Find the Grand Total: In cell B5 (or the equivalent on your spreadsheet), type the formula that will find the sum of your income for January. Fill this formula through June to the cells that will share the equivalent calculation.
o Find the Grand Total: In cell H9 (or the equivalent on your spreadsheet), type the formula that will find the sum of your first expense category. Fill this formula to the other cells that will share the equivalent calculation.
o Find the Grand Total: In cell B15 (or the equivalent on your spreadsheet), type the formula that will find the sum of your expenses for January. Fill this formula through June to the cells that will share the equivalent calculation. Fill right through the Total column.
o Find the Total Savings: In cell B17 (or the equivalent on your spreadsheet), type the formula that will find your total Savings for January. Fill this formula to the other cells that will share the equivalent calculation for the remaining months and a Grand Overall Savings.
3. Finishing
❑ In the footer, type Activity 28, press enter and type your name.
❑ In the page set up, make sure you are in a landscape format and the worksheet fits on one page only.
❑ Print preview to make sure the worksheet only takes up one page.
❑ Compare your worksheet formulas with the Answer Sample.
❑ Go to File and select Save. Name the file SS Act 28.
❑ Submit using Edmodo or as directed by your teacher.
