Hands On Activity 7

Creating and Formatting a SmartArt Organizational Chart

1. With 5-OrgChart-7-HOA open, create the SmartArt organizational chart shown in

Figure 5.5. To begin, click the Insert tab.

2. Click the SmartArt button in the Illustrations group.

3. At the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box, click Hierarchy in the left panel of the dialog

box and then double-click the Organization Chart option (first option in the middle panel).

4. If a Type your text here pane displays at the left of the organizational chart, close it by

clicking the Text Pane button in the Create Graphic group.

5. Delete one of the boxes in the organizational chart by clicking the border of the box in

the lower right corner to select it and then pressing the Delete key. (Make sure that the

selection border surrounding the box is a solid line and not a dashed line. If a dashed line

appears, click the box border again. This should change the border to a solid line.)

6. With the bottom right box selected, click the Add Shape button arrow in the Create

Graphic group and then click the Add Shape Below option.

7. Click the [Text] placeholder in the top box, type Blaine Willis, press Shift + Enter, and then

type President. Click in each of the remaining boxes and type the text as shown in Figure

5.5. (Press Shift + Enter after typing each name.)

8. Click the More SmartArt Styles button in the SmartArt Styles group and then click the Inset

style (second option in the 3-D section).

9. Click the Change Colors button and then click the Colorful Range - Accent Colors 4 to 5

option (fourth option in the Colorful section).

10. Click the SmartArt Tools Format tab.

11. Click the text pane control (displays with a left-pointing arrow) at

the left side of the graphic border. (This displays the Type your text

here window.)

12. Using the mouse, select all the text in the Type your text here window.

13. Click the Change Shape button in the Shapes group and then click

the Rectangle: Top Corners Rounded option (eighth option in the

Rectangles section).

14. Click the Shape Outline button arrow in the Shape Styles group and then click the Dark

Blue option (ninth option in the Standard Colors section).

15. Close the Type your text here window.

16. Click inside the organizational chart border but outside any shapes.

17. Click in the Shape Height measurement box, type 4, and then press the Enter key.

18. Click in the Shape Width measurement box, type 6.5, and then press the Enter key.

19. Click outside the organizational chart to deselect it.
