1. Purpose: Your job is to name and create your own imaginary continent reflecting different climates based on the continent location and altitude.

2. Draw an imaginary continent. Must be drawn full size on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of graphing paper. (not notebook paper) (5 points)

3. Create a name for your continent: ________________________________________ (1 point)

4. Create 5 imaginary cities for each of your different climate zones. Place each imaginary city in each climate areas. See below for different climate biomes. Write the longitude and latitude of the city coordinates.

5. Identify and label on your drawing the location of the equator in relation with your continent. (2 points)

6. Draw 5 or more land formations and label properly. Create a name for each of your land formations.

Mountain range(s): ______________________________________________(2 points)

7. The continent map will be colored representing 5 different climates (2 points each for total of 10 points). These climates will make complete sense with regard to the continent’s location and altitude.

Scientists use just SIX words to describe the climates of different areas/regions of the world: Mark only 5 climates for your continent. Next to each of the 5 climates, use a marker or map color to create a color key of each climate by marking a line in front of the bold words.

Polar & Tundra- Bitterly cold with an average temperature of 0°- 10°C in summer and -50° in winter!

Cool Temperate- these areas have cool winters and warm summers.

Warm Temperate- These areas have mild winters and hot summers

Tropical- these areas are hot all year round, and in some parts there is rain all year round too!

Desert- True deserts are very dry- they are hot during the day, 40° or more, and cold at night

Mountain- The higher the mountain, the colder it is!

8. The continent map will included a map key (or legend) that fully explains the climate color meanings. Include weather information such as:

Temperatures (H=highs and L=lows) for each climate (2 points each city)

Different fronts are indicated by the front symbols (2 points each city)

Type of precipitation for each climate (2 points each city)

Cloud coverage for each climate(2 points each city)

9. The continent map must be drawn colorful and neat and is clean and attractive. It should be free of messy and incomplete work and shows pride of creator. (10 points)

10. Identify the longitude and latitude coordinates for the center of the continent are accurate within 5 degrees.

Longitude ______________ and Latitude ____________________ (2 points)

11. Use the symbols chart below to create your own legend and identify weather on your continent. (5 points)

12. Research Fronts and Average Temperatures of Cities Around the worlds (5 points )
