WEEKLY CURRENT EVENTS

Every week you will be required to browse the media for significant national or international current events related to Canada. Choose a story, research it on several sources, and type or write out the gist of your event, covering the 5 Ws. This write-up will be handed in by the end of class on the designated research day, and random people will be chosen to present their stories during the last 20 minutes of class. So, you must work quickly, within the 40-minute window. Every student will start with 10 current event marks, and will keep those marks as long as he/she hands in a COMPLETED story write-up and presents satisfactorily when called upon. For every write-up missed, you will lose one mark, and for every presentation missed, you will lose 3. I will let you know if you are not meeting expectations. Please use your time wisely.

To become aware of the biases present in the media, ensure that you are using different sources each week. Getting to know these sources will help you become a discriminating consumer of information.
