Sunday School Crafts for Preschool - Giving My Best to Jesus

Giving My Best to Jesus

by Becky

Children will make their own bottle of "perfume" and give their best to Jesus.

Materials: Plastic soda or water bottles or small plastic containers (one for each child) Decorative paper or construction paper (several pieces for each child) Magazines, Stickers Glue, scissors, Colored markers

Topics: Blessings, Giving, Gratitude, Pleasing God

Duration: Approximately 20 minutes

Target Audience: Ages 4-6

Preparation: Make sure you clean the plastic bottles well and remove any paper from the outside before giving them to the children. You can use some decorative paper (available at craft stores) or you can simply use different colored pieces of construction paper. It might be easier if you have strips of paper cut so the children can pick and choose the colors they wish to use and so there will be less cleanup time afterwards. Have some colorful stickers and colored markers available for the children to decorate their bottles however they want.

Also have some old magazines and scissors available for when the children fill their bottles.

What the kids will do: Give the children a set amount of time to first decorate their bottles with the decorative paper, colored markers, and stickers.

After their bottles have been decorated, allow the children a few minutes to look through the magazines and choose 5 or 6 pictures that show them what they like to do. For example, if they like to play a sport, they may find and cut out a picture of an athlete or a certain type of ball. If they like dance, they may find a picture of a ballerina or tap shoes, etc. There are many ways they can express themselves and show examples of what they love to do. The children will place these pictures inside the bottle when you instruct them to.

What you will say: As the children are cutting out their pictures, let them know that today we are learning about giving our very best to Jesus. No matter what we do, whether it is a sport, a craft, or a talent, we must remember that God gave us everything we have. To show how thankful we are, we can give Jesus our very best.

Explain how this is similar to what the woman did when she poured perfume on the feet of Jesus and then wiped them dry with her hair. She gave something that was very special and expensive to Jesus. She was humble and gave Him her very best to show her love for Him.

(Have the children place their pictures inside of the bottles and close them up) In the same way, we can use our bottles and pictures of what we like, to show Jesus that we want to put Him first in our lives, in what we do and how we do it. God wants our very best and we need to do what we can to do our very best for Him.
