POST: Regional Business Development Manager (North of England)

HOURS: 35 hours

SALARY: Scale Range 32-34: £27,323-28,922 + Pension and other benefits

HOLIDAY: 25 days pa exclusive of bank and statutory holidays

RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Business Development and Partnerships

LOCATION Manchester with expectations of national travel

The Regional Business Development Manager post with responsibility for the North of England is a new role within a restructured Business Development Team.

You will have a key role to play in helping achieve Depaul’s mission of offering homeless and disadvantaged people the opportunity to fulfil their potential and move towards an independent and positive future.

The postholder will work closely with the Head of Business Development and Partnerships and the Area Director for Depaul UK services in the North of England.

You will develop and maintain relationships with key partners, commissioners and influencers in the North of England housing and homeless sector. You will lead on the delivery of business development activities which ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities and lead on high quality bids and retenders.

The post is based with our Central Manchester Projects and will involve travel across the North of England, to our offices in the North East (Whitley Bay) and to our Headquarters in London. The postholder will have the flexibility for some home working as needed.

To help you understand the challenges facing our vulnerable homeless service users and how Depaul UK works to address those challenges, you will be given plenty of opportunities to visit services across the country and build relationships with key Depaul service staff.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience of writing and coordinating bids for statutory sector tenders

• Experience of developing collaborations that result in improved business benefits

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent research skills to scope the external environment for funding opportunities

• Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines effectively

• Collaborative approach to working with others to achieve high quality bids

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

• Internal: Executive Director of Fundraising & Development, Executive Director of Services, Head of Business Development & Partnerships, Fundraising team, Area Directors and all Regional Services

• External: Local authority departments, commissioners, central government agencies, housing and homelessness agencies, voluntary sector partner agencies

MAIN TASKS AND DUTIES

← Engage with key stakeholders and commissioners to promote Depaul UK’s services and core practice model

← Develop and maintain partnerships with other providers to increase opportunities for our service users

← Engage and consult with service users to understand their needs and aspirations

← Market research for potential business opportunities in existing and new markets

← Project manage the preparation of new bids/retenders by completing internal bid approval documents, arranging bid team meetings, collating information/service user evidence

← Lead on the writing of high quality bids/retenders

← Develop and manage bid resources to ensure consistent approach to completing tenders

← Liaise closely with services and central core teams in preparation and submission of bids

← Assist or Lead on the preparation and delivery of presentations

← Provide accurate information to internal stakeholders on Business Development activity

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1 In conjunction with your Line Manager to continuously develop the role to ensure that all tasks are being undertaken in an effective and appropriate manner which meets the strategic aims and objectives of Depaul UK.

2 To participate in internal/external meetings as required, and attend training events, conferences and other functions as necessary.

3 To participate in regular supervision and annual appraisal, and help in identifying your own job-related development and training needs.

4 To contribute to, and be supportive of, young people’s involvement in our services and in all levels of decision making throughout the organisation

5 To ensure that all Depaul UK policies and procedures are being adhered to, particularly those relating to Health and Safety, Code of Practice and Confidentiality.

6 To contribute to the effective implementation of Depaul UK’s Diversity and Equality Policy as it affects both Depaul and its work with young people.

7 To at all times undertake your role in a professional manner maintaining a high quality standard of work, and to always work in accordance with the aims, values and ethos of Depaul UK[1].

8 Undertake any other duties that may be required which are commensurate with the role.

1. EXPERIENCE

1.1 Significant experience of statutory sector contracting and commissioning for social care or housing or homeless or children’s services

1.2 Experience of business development activities including managing an effective business development pipeline and bid resources for responding to tender questions

1.3 Experience of developing and maintaining relationships with existing and prospective external partners and organisations

1.3 Evidence of delivering effective, accurate and highly engaging bid writing

1.4 Evidence of conducting research to inform and strengthen business opportunities

1.5 Evidence of using service user engagement to inform and strengthen bid development

2. KNOWLEDGE/UNDERSTANDING

2.1 Essential: Knowledge of a range of Project Management tools and techniques

2.2 Essential: Knowledge of both the local authority and central commissioning environment

2.3 Essential: Knowledge of the social care sector with a preference for candidates with knowledge of the housing and homelessness sector

2.4 Essential: High competence in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
