The Executive Director manages one full-time staff member, and reports to a board of directors that is made up of leaders from business and government. The EDC’s priorities are: Business Retention & Expansion – To keep local enterprises in the area and to support their continued growth and expansion Business Recruitment – To attract new business operations that compliment and diversify Mason County’s economic baseBusiness Climate Improvement – Maintain, enhance or change factors that impact business investment, operations and employment growth in Mason County.EDC is a private, non-profit 501 (c) 6 corporation and has been in continuous operation for nearly 30 munityMason County is a rural community with a resource based economy located on the Olympic Peninsula approximately 30 minutes from the State Capitol of Olympia, Washington. The county has a population of 61,000 people.Mason County is unique in that it has one incorporated City (Shelton). Located on Hood Canal and the gateway into Olympic National Park and Forest, as well as south Puget Sound, there are many recreational opportunities. Primary industries in the community are: Timber, value added forest products, manufacturing, shellfish (aquaculture), floral greens, and state & local government. The EDC’s strength is in its broad-based membership of business owners and individuals committed to excellence and continual improvement. The EDC works diligently to coordinate local economic development activities by forging strong connections with government agencies (City of Shelton, Mason County, Ports, Public Utility Districts) community groups, interested citizens and other stakeholders such as the Chamber of Commerce and the Realtor Association. EDC also connects with the private business and those industries that are within our cluster groups (forest products, food processing, manufacturing, technology, and health care).Executive Director Selection Criteria The Executive Director, with policy direction by the Board of Directors, provides leadership to the EDC in its mission to help the local economy diversify, increase opportunities for commuters to work closer to home, and expand the number of primary jobs available through business recruitment, expansion, and petitive candidates must demonstrate ability and accomplishments in the following areas: Business experienceHas senior level leadership and marketing experience in an economic development environment and demonstrated successful outcomes in business retention, expansion and recruitmentCollaborationStrong collaborative skills with case examples resulting in community-wide change and accomplishment of specific munications skillsExcellent written and verbal communications skills including dynamic public speaking capabilitiesEducationFour year college degree Economic development Proven ability to understand, communicate and implement a community’s economic development process.
