He had his first race at 17 but his first win was for the 500ccrace in Port Elizabeth in 1950 when he set a new lap record. He is known for his two motorcycle Grand Prix wins and three wins at the Isle of Man TT Races. He was killed in his first race for MV Agusta in Italy on 11th April 1955.

Andrews, Winifred Eugene `Win' n?e Cowper (aged 96). Born in Dublin, Ireland she came to Rhodesia in 1919, returned for four years of schooling in Ireland but completed at Girls High in Salisbury. Qualified as a nurse with her twin sister and worked at General Hospital in Bulawayo. Married Howard and moved to Matopos then Victoria Falls where he was Superintendent. Win worked in Departmnet of National Parks until 1981 then operated the Ops Room in Police Reserve. Attested with large contingent to BSAP and sailed on Alcantara in 1946 and completed 20 years' service retiring as Chief Inspector. He graduated at Manchester University, UK and taught until retiring in 1988 and sang in Bach choir. Baker, Kate `Midge' n?e Durden, passed away on 29th May 2019 in Brussels. She was at Oriel from 1967 to 1973 and was a Prefect and Captain of the Netball team. She will be sadly missed by all her family, especially her daughters Bryony and Hayley. Barbour, Brian Douglas (aged 61). Born in Bulawayo, he passed away in Johannesburg on 5th December 2014. He scored 97 on debut aged 18 in 1971 for Rhodesia and the short, stocky left-handed Barbour became a fast hitting opening batsman. in 1980, he immigrated to South Africa and worked for Metro Cash and Carry. He was survived by his two sons and older brother Kevan, a notable wicketkeeper-batsman and international umpire. Barclay, John (aged 79). Husband to Marie and father of Wendy, Debbie and the late Johan. Passed away on 1st February 2020 in Kimberley Hospital, South Africa. Attended Beatrice Junior, Rhodes Prep and Gifford School. Farmed in Enkeldoorn, Karoi then joined Veterinary Dept. Relocated to South Africa in 1981 and joined de Beers. He became known as the "Buffalo Whisperer". Barkhuizen, Ockert. 2014. Wife of Denis who died in 1975 and mother of Richard, Jan and Jo. 14th March 2001 in Harare, Zimbabwe. Margaret was the first Rhodesian born woman to study at Oxford University, graduating in 1930 then worked for the Bulawayo Chronicle in Bulawayo. Baron, Marshall Philip (aged 42). Died suddenly on 3rd March 1977 in Bulawayo, where he was born. He studied at Cape Town University and practised law in Bulawayo and critiqued music for the Chronicle. Rhodesian painter with exhibitions in USA, South Africa and Rhodesia. Active in liberal politics and stood as an Independent in 1974. Barrowman, Andrew Noble. 1st April, 1987. He was with 17th Rhodesian Battery that traversed Italy in WWII and was a Chartered Accountant. Dennis passed away on 7th January, 2004 in Harare, Zimbabwe from inadequate medical care. Bennett, Edward Donald `Ed' and `Teddy' (aged 63). Husband to Val, father of Sandra and Nicola, and brother to John, Steve and Sue. Chartered Accountant. Suddenly at home after a seizure on 22nd January, 2011 in Borrowdale, Harare, Zimbabwe. Bennett, Edward Gibson `Ted' (aged 78). Born in East London, didn't finish school. Worked for BSAC retail in Salisbury and farmers financed Ted and his brother-in-law to open `Smith & Bennett' John Deere agency. They broke sanctions through a branch in South Africa until it became the biggest outlet in the Transvaal and was closed by the Americans. Husband of May and father of Dennis and Ronald. Passed away in Salisbury on 28th April 1973 and had suffered from emphysema which he probably got from the mustard gas in the trenches before he was captured in WWI.
