This course is designed to explore what makes a business profitable. In collaborative groups, students will create a comprehensive business plan for a company. The students will learn about location, competition, pricing, and promotion and be able to develop management and financial plans.

If you plan to start your own business, major in business in college, or enter employment in business, this course will benefit you.

Instructor Biography:

Carolee Gray is a Business Education Teacher at Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly, New Jersey. She is a 1990 graduate of RVRHS, holds a B.S. in Finance from Rider University and on September 15, 2009 will hold a Master of Arts in Education with a Specialization in Administration and Supervision.

This school year she adds Co-Adviser, Class of 2012 to her list along with Primary Adviser of the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America).

Welcome - Course Description

Welcome to the Management & Entrepreneurship Class. I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with you during this school year. This course is designed to teach you everything you will need to know to start and maintain your own small business.

Policies & Procedure – Attendance

Six unauthorized class absences will be allowed for a semester. No credit will be given for unauthorized absences beyond the number of absences listed above. Students have one full day to hand in work missed for their one unauthorized absence. Please see page 8 of your student agenda for further information regarding Rancocas Valley’s attendance policies.

Arriving Late

After three unexcused days arriving to class late you will be turned in to discipline.

Participation

Participation is very important. Students are expected to contribute in a substantive way. Quality answers are expected from all students at all times. Participation is heavily weighted in individual and group activities. Non participation in class will result in a significant grade reduction. You will receive a 100 in participation/personal management for each quarter and that number will be decreased based on lack of participation with a maximum of ten points per week that can be subtracted.

Late Assignments

Handing in late assignments means not handing in an assignment the day the assignment is due. A student can hand in an assignment anytime before the day the assignment is due. Once that day is over, it is considered late. One day late will cost you 10% of your grade. Two days late will cost 20% up to five days late will be 50% and after five days work will not be accepted.

Incomplete Assignments

Incomplete assignments will receive no more than half credit at all times – no exceptions.

Student Behavior

All students are expected to conduct themselves as mature and responsible members of an academic community. All rules set forth by Rancocas Valley Regional High School do apply. Please be reminded that the use of cellular telephones and electronic devices are not permitted. Violating this rule will result in disciplinary action.

Academic Honesty

Academic honesty is highly valued and expected at all times. A student must always submit work that represents his or her original words or ideas. If any words or ideas are used that do not represent the student’s original words or ideas, the student MUST cite all relevant sources. Plagiarism is not tolerated; the punishment will be the grade of zero (0) for the assignment and disciplinary action given by the school administrator. All citations can be made from the Rancocas Valley Regional High School’s Library Media Center Noodle Tools Program at . Having a tutor, family member, friend, or classmate complete your assignments is not allowed. If you have any questions about appropriate academic citations, do not hesitate to ask.
