COURSE INFORMATION

Course Title: Honors Entrepreneurship

Course Description: Students will develop a marketing/business plan and apply economic concepts when making decisions for an entrepreneurial venture. They will assess the role entrepreneurship plays in the free enterprise system. In addition, Proficiency Credit with AACC is available.

PROFICIENCY CREDIT

Students will have the opportunity to choose whether or not they would like to receive Proficiency Credit for BPA-103 through AACC for their participation in Honors Entrepreneurship at Severna Park High School. In order to obtain these transcripted credits, students must enroll as a student at AACC and earn a score of A, B, or C on the AACC comprehensive assessment. Should students receive an A, B, or C on the assessment the same score will appear as their grade for the class on the AACC transcript. Should a student score lower than a C, the class will not appear on an AACC transcript.

TEXTBOOK

Students are to respect the books and treat them with care while in use. The class set of texts will remain in the classroom at all times.

Grading:

SPHS grading system will comply with AACPS Board of Education Grading Policy, II-RA.

Grades are earned by student to document mastery of course objectives, skills, content and concepts.

A student’s grade will be determined through a point system. Grades will be weighted using the following categories as per Anne Arundel County Board of Education policy:

Assignments/Quizzes/Tests   80%                

Quarterly Assessment            10%

Grading Scale:

A 100% - 90%

B 89% - 80%

C 79% - 70%

D 69% - 60%

E 59% or below

High School semester grades are determined by:

Each of the two marking period grades of a semester shall equal 50% each. High school course final grades shall be determined by averaging the two marking period of a semester grades. Note: Quarterly assessments shall count for 10% of each marking period grades.

Example:

3rd Marking Period = 50% (of which 10% is Quarterly Assessment)

4th Marking Period = 50% (of which 10% is Quarterly Assessment)

Final grade for Semester Two = 3rd (50%) Marking Period+ 4th (50%) Marking Period

The student must receive a passing grade for two of the three grades or an “E” is earned, regardless of numerical average.

Late Work:

Students with late assignments will receive a grade based on the assigned rubric score, in addition to the late scale below:

1 – School day late 10%

2-5 School days late 20%

6 + School days late 50% (assuming a good faith effort)

Make-up work:

When a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to get the make-up work. The student will be allotted the same number of days equal to the number of days absent to make-up work. Students will unlawful absences may request missed assignments, but will not receive credit for the work.

SPHS will comply with AACPS Compulsory Attendance regulation JB-RA in regard to student make-up work.

Opportunity for Mastery:

(1) Students have one opportunity to improve scores on 3 of the total graded qualifying assignments which count toward a marking period grade. Students may not use more than one opportunity on the same assignment.

(2) Regardless of the initial grade received, to qualify for an opportunity for mastery, the student must have completed/submitted the original assignment by the due date and complete/submit the new assignment within ten school days of receiving the returned original graded work.

(3) Students may choose which assignments they re-take except: Homework, Quarterly Assessments, Multi-component research projects or multi-component written papers (components of the project or paper that are graded separately may qualify), Assignments completed during the last week of the marking period.

(4) After an opportunity for mastery is graded, the higher grade shall be the grade of record.
