Our consciences, instructed by God’s law, rightly declare us unworthy of this gift.We find we have neither loved the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind, nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves. To examine our lives is to confirm that we deserve exclusion from this royal banquet, and, indeed, from God’s presence forever.Yet this is God’s feast of love, and it was in love that Christ gave himself for us.When we were unworthy, Christ made us worthy. When we should have justly died as punishment for our sins, Christ freely paid our penalty, dying in our place. Christ has become our complete righteousness. We are called to trust God’s work on our behalf and to receive the gift of forgiveness offered us in Christ Jesus. Our reconciliation to God is found in trusting this good news—that before we chose God, God chose us. We are what God has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, prepared beforehand to be our way of life.Rest fully assured that when God finds such contrite trust and godly intention, God will forgive all our sins and make us worthy partakers of this heavenly kingdom.Prayer of Illumination ScriptureEsther 2:19-26When the virgins were assembled a second time, Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate. But Esther had kept secret her family background and nationality just as Mordecai had told her to do, for she continued to follow Mordecai’s instructions as she had done when he was bringing her up. During the time Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, two of the king’s officers became angry and conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. But Mordecai found out about the plot and told Queen Esther, who in turn reported it to the king, giving credit to Mordecai. And when the report was investigated and found to be true, the two officials were hanged on a gallows. All this was recorded in the book of the annals in the presence of the king. Esther 4:12-17When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer, “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?” Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” So Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther’s instructions. Esther 10:3Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews, because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews. Morning Message: (Pastor Lori) “For Such a Time as This”Celebration of the Lord’s Supper We come in remembrance that our Lord Jesus Christ was sent of the Father into the world to assume our flesh and blood and to fulfill for us all obedience to the divine law.By his death, resurrection, and ascension he established a new and eternal covenant of grace and reconciliation. We come to have communion with this same Christ who has promised to be with us always, even to the end of the world.Jesus is the true heavenly Bread that strengthens us unto life eternal. Jesus is the Vine in whom we must abide if we are to bear fruit. We come in hope, believing that this bread and this cup are a pledge and a foretaste of the feast of love we will share when his kingdom has fully come. Then we shall behold him, made like unto him in his glory. With your whole church in heaven, we worship and adore your glorious name.Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts! Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord.
