THE 143rd STATED MEETING OF THE PRESBYTERY OF CHARLOTTE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, WADESBORO, NC SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 2019

CONGRATULATIONS: At the National Black Presbyterian Caucus' 45th Biennial Convention in June, the 2019 Lucy Craft Laney Award was presented to Ruling Elder Corine Lytle Cannon (Covenant-Kannapolis), mother of the Rev. Dr. Jerry Cannon (CN Jenkins), and the late Rev. Dr. Katie Cannon.

PASTORAL CONCERNS: Family of Rev. Mike Murdock, who passed on August 2nd as a result of a pulmonary embolism. Family of Rev. Raymond Worsley (HR), who passed on July 24th at the age of 93. Family of Rev. Joe Crawford, who passed on June 2nd, after a long battle with early onset Alzheimers. Rev. Herbert Shackelford (HR), health concerns. Rev. Allison Messick-Watkins, who has lost several family members over the last few months.

OMNIBUS MOTION: 1. That the final report of the Administrative Commission to close Camden Presbyterian Church be received and that the Commission be dismissed with the Presbytery's thanks.

2. That the following five people be elected to serve on the Sharon Towers Board of Directors in the Class of 2022: Michael W. Fischer First Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC Robert S. Service of Ordination of Ardith June Skidmore As a Minister of Word and Sacrament

Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, Charlotte Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 2:00 pm

The Commission met on June 1, 2019 at 1:30 pm at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC. Commission Members Present were: MINISTERS: Luke Maybry (Matthews), Moderator; British Hyrams (Central Steele Creek), Diane Gian-nola (at-large), Ron Nelson (Sharon); GUEST MINISTERS: Richard Boyce (Western NC Presbytery), Joseph McCutchen (Presbytery of the Peaks); ELDERS: Robert Remsburg (Locust), Elizabeth Little (First-Charlotte), Cindy FIsher (South Mecklenburg), Olanda Carr (First United)

The Commission meeting was opened with prayer by the Moderator, Rev. Luke Maybry, who was also elected to serve as secretary of the Commission. The Commission recessed for the Ordination Service.

The Moderator presided. The service was opened with singing, prayer and scripture reading. Olanda Carr read the scripture and Elizabeth Little had the prayer. The sermon was preached by Rev. Dr. Richard Boyce, titled, "Rising Up Again", based on I Samuel 1:1-28.

The Moderator stated briefly the previous requirements and proceedings of the Presbytery and pointed out the nature and importance of the Ordination ordinance.

The Moderator propounded the constitutional questions to the Candidate and these were answered in the affirmative. Robert Remsburg, Elder Representative of the Locust Presbyterian Church congregation, then propounded the constitutional questions to the congregation and these were answered in the affirmative. The Candidate then kneeled and was set apart to the holy office of the Gospel Ministry with prayer and the laying on of hands. She then rose and received the right hand of fellowship from the members of the commission. The Moderator then declared that Ardith June Skidmore had been regularly elected and ordained as a minister of Word and Sacrament. She will serve in validated ministry as Temporary Pastor to Locust Presbyterian Church.

A charge to the new minister was delivered by Rev. British Hyrams. A charge to the Congregation was delivered by Rev. Diane Giannola.

Following prayer and singing, the newly ordained minister pronounced the benediction.

The Commission approved its minutes and was adjourned with prayer.

Commissioning of Ruling Elder Catherine Perkins Sloan To Pastoral Service as a Commissioned Local Pastor Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, Charlotte Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 6:30 pm

The Commission met on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC. Commission Members Present were: Ministers: Stephen Mitchell (MorningStar), Moderator; Eulando Henton (Derita), Mark Lee (Philadelphia), Jan Edmiston (General Presbyter); Elders: Tamara Williams (First United), Bill Johnston (Philadelphia), Donna Fair (First United); Others: Shane Shedd

The Commission meeting was opened with prayer by Rev. Stephen Mitchell. Tamara Williams was elected secretary of the Commission. The Commission recessed for the Commissioning service.

The Moderator presided. The Moderator stated briefly the previous proceedings of the Presbytery and pointed out the nature and importance of the commissioning service.

The service was opened with singing, prayer and scripture reading. Donna Fair read the scripture and Rev. Mark Lee had the prayer. The sermon/homily was preached by Rev. Eulando Henton, titled "Cultivate Joy", based on John 15:5-11.

The Moderator propounded the constitutional questions to the Candidate and these were answered in the affirmative. Bill Johnston, Elder Representative of the congregation, then propounded the constitutional questions to the Philadelphia Church congregation and these were answered in the affirmative. Rev. Dr. Jan Edmiston led the body in the commissioning prayer and the laying on of hands. Members of the Commission and congregation then gave her the right hand of fellowship. The Moderator then declared that Catherine Perkins Sloan had been examined and approved to be commissioned to serve in validated specialized ministry as Commissioned Local Pastor at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church.

A charge to the new Commissioned Local Pastor was delivered by Tamara Williams.

Following prayer and singing, the new Commissioned Local Pastor pronounced the benediction.

The Commission approved its minutes and was adjourned with prayer by the benediction.

Administration Commission to Dissolve Camden Presbyterian Church Final Report to Presbytery August 17, 2019

Camden Presbyterian Church held their final worship service on Sunday, October 9, 2016. Members who sought a continued relationship within the Presbyterian Church (USA) were invited and welcomed to join First Presbyterian Church in Wadesboro or Morven Presbyterian Church.

All financial obligations were cleared.

The churches records were to be submitted to the Presbyterian Historical Society.

The remaining monies of $25,000 were given to the Camden Church Cemetery Association for the perpetual maintenance of the church's cemetery.

The church building had a significant mold and other problems. It was donated "as is" to a local church to be refurbished for continued ministry in the area. The final transfer of deed to Divine Unity Church was approved by the Commisison.

With agreement between the church and the Administrative Commission, we submit this for final approval.

Ministry Resource Committee Report to Presbytery August 17, 2019

Hamilton Grants: The Hamilton Fund was established to assist congregations of 200 members or less with projects or programs that could not be included in the annual budget of their congregation. These funds are not to be used for projects and/or programs which the Hamilton Fund would be expected to continue to underwrite on an annual basis. Hamilton Grants may be distributed in amounts from $250 to $1000 per congregation. The Ministry Resource Committee reviews Hamilton Grants applications and makes its recommendations for allocation to Council, to be approved by the Presbytery.

Recommendation: That the Presbytery of Charlotte approve the allocation of 2018 Hamilton Grants to the following seven (7) churches in the amounts indicated: (Total Amount = $4475)

Ben Salem Presbyterian Church Amount Requested: $1000 Amount Recommended: $925 Purpose: To host a movie on the lawn/back to school event for the neighborhood

First Presbyterian Church, Norwood, NC Amount Requested: $1000 Amount Recommended: $925 Purpose: Installation of playground equipment and mulching/fencing around, will be used by a scholarship camp in the summer.

the Fellowship place Amount Requested: $1000 Amount Recommended: $925 Purpose: To purchase a laptop to be used in worship to work on sound board to live stream services.

McClintock Presbyterian Church Amount Requested: $500 Amount Recommended: $425 Purpose: To purchase games and DVDs for a parents night out ministry hosted by the church (this initiative was birthed out of the Emmaus Adaptive change program.

St. Paul Presbyterian Church Amount Requested: $500 Amount Recommended: $425 Purpose: To replace a toilet and urinal in the Men's bathroom on the main floor.

Robinson Presbyterian Church Amount Requested: $500 Amount Recommended: $425 Purpose: To purchase carnival games and a banner for their Annual Fall Festival.

Woodland Presbyterian Church Amount Requested: $1050 Amount Recommended: $425 Purpose: Training for officers and congregational leaders.
