Welcome to Fourth Grade - Team Cross

Welcome to Fourth Grade!!

2019-2020

I am excited about the opportunity to work with you and your child this year. Below is some important information about our class. Please read it carefully and discuss these items with your child.

Contacting the Teacher – At any time you need to communicate with me, you are welcome to call the school (919-570-2220) and leave a message. I will call you back as soon as I can (usually after school). You may also send me an email directly. My email address is KCross@ and I do check email very often during the school day. Of course, you are also welcome to send a note.

Snack – Our scheduled lunch time is 12:00pm. Students are allowed to bring a snack to school. Our snack time will be around 10:00.

Water Bottles – I will allow students to bring water bottles to class. Please be sure that your child is bringing water. Also please remind your child that the water bottles are not toys. If they become a distraction, they will be removed from his or her area.

Absences/Change in Transportation – If your child is absent from school, please send me a note or email stating the reason for the absence. I must code the absences daily in our attendance program. If you know of absences in advance, please notify me. Also, if your child’s mode of transportation ever changes (example: riding home with someone else, different bus, etc), I need to know by you calling the school, or by sending a note/email. If I am not notified of changes by phone call or note/email, I will send your child home the way that they usually go.

Monday Folders – Each Monday, your child will be bringing home a “Monday Folder.” The folder will contain their papers for the week, as well as other papers for you to read and/or sign. Your child is expected to return the folder on Tuesday. Monday folders will NOT include a weekly/bi-weekly newsletter. This year newsletters will be sent via email. Parents are expected to read the newsletters carefully. If you need a printed copy of the email please let me know.

Homework – Your child will have homework each night. It usually takes 30-45 minutes to complete. This will also include their independent reading time (approximately 30 min.). All homework will be returned with a “P” on it representing that it was practice. Students will receive a weekly homework sheet each Monday. Nightly reading (~30 min.) is expected each night. Math HW will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night. Students are welcome to complete HW ahead of time but we will check HW daily. Math POD and review should be completed on a separate sheet of notebook paper so work can be shown. Depending on our daily math lesson students may or may not have a math worksheet to go along with the POD and review. If you have any questions feel free to send me an email.

Arrival/Dismissal – Arrival begins at 7:15am and dismissal begins at 2:15pm. The school day begins at 7:45am. Your child will be tardy if they arrive in the classroom after 7:45am. They must sign in at the office if this happens. Students who eat breakfast at school will go directly to the cafeteria upon arrival. If ever you need to pick your child up early, please notify me by note or phone call if you know in advance.

Conferences/Interims/Report Cards – I am available to conference with you at your request throughout the year. Please call or email me with your request in advance. Pop-in conferences are discouraged. Report cards and interims will be sent each quarter in the Monday folder.

Flexible Seating- Our classroom does not use traditional desk and chairs. We have many different options for seating. Students will learn about seating Tuesday and how to properly use each seat. Students also will sign a contract that states they will use the furniture properly. If the furniture becomes a distraction or a toy he or she will be asked to move. If your child would prefer a traditional school desk please let me know.

If you have any additional questions about anything, please feel free to let me know!!

Thank you for your constant support and cooperation!!
