Course: Geometry

Course: Advanced Algebra

Instructor: Mr. Green

Room: 306

Final Exam: All students will take a Local Exam in June; students who have not scored at least 85% on the Algebra 2 With Trigonometry Regents Exam will take in January and/or June.

Course Outline: This Course will follow a College Algebra Curriculum from various sources, both print and online. There are three main goals for this course: 1) Advanced Algebra topics that will provide rigor to prepare students for a course in Pre-Calculus, 2) Review the Algebra 2 With Trigonometry Curriculum to assist students in scoring 85% on the Algebra 2/Trig Regents to meet future qualifications for college courses, 3) Start the integration of NYS Modules for the Pre-Calculus Common Core Curriculum.

Grading Policy: 20% for homework, 35% for quizzes, 45% for tests

Testing: There will be testing after each unit, and also cumulative testing at the appropriate intervals.

Quizzing: There will be quizzes given periodically to make sure students are keeping up with daily instruction and homework.

Homework: Will be given on a daily basis. If students do not keep up with the homework, it will be much more difficult to do well on quizzes and tests.

Website: ; Choose High School, Mathematics, Mr. Green’s Homepage, and choose Advanced Algebra. This webpage has a page for helpful internet links, and a page where the homework and assessments will be listed. You may also choose the calendar from Mr. Green’s Homepage to see homework and assessments.

Notebooks: Notebooks are required to be kept for this course. They need to be 3-ring loose leaf binders so handouts can go into them. They should also be organized appropriately and have a table of contents.

Extra Help: If at any time a student needs help or has a question, please come to ask the instructor. There will be several opportunities for extra help. I will make every effort to help each student and make the necessary time. This can happen at any time during Academic Labs, during the instructor’s planning period, and before or after school with advance notice.

Calculators: We will be using the TI-Nspire Graphing Calculator. They will be signed out from the library for students to use for the entire school year. Calculators will be returned to the library at the end of the school year. Calculators cannot be signed out until student returns the yellow Calculator Use Form which is to be read and signed by both the Student and a Parent/Guardian.

On-line work: Castle Learning will be used again this year. It will provide help on Algebra 2 With Trigonometry Regents questions for all students. Some classwork and some homework will be from this site.

Discipline: A culture of respect, hard work, and self motivation will be the expectation of the instructor. All discipline will be handled according to the Student Handbook, which is in the School Planners. Each student is expected to carry their Planner with them to class.

Mastery: It is the District’s goal to help all students pass and score above the mastery level on the NYS Algebra 2 With Trigonometry Regents Exam, and to be college ready. This will require students to put forth maximum effort and attend all classes. Students will be required to see the instructor if they are having difficulties or if they are not completing assignments.

If a Parent or Guardian has a question, please contact me at 846-5121 or dgreen@. I will help you in whatever way I can. I look forward to working with all Parents/Guardians and Students to have a fun and successful school year.
