The aim of the course is to equip you with mathematical knowledge and skills that will help you in everyday life, in work, and in further studies. Geometry involves the measurement, properties, and relationship among points, lines, angles, surfaces, and solids. Architects, chefs, builders, planners, artists, and travel agents use geometry. We will challenge ourselves to identify patterns, discover concepts, solve real life problems, and justify our conclusions.

10% Projects

For the classwork component, you earn credit 0-4 points each day. Your weekly classwork grade is the percentage you earned of the possible points

4=You were fully involved in completing all tasks

3=You completed most assignments, but missed something

2=You were not fully engaged and only completed half the assignments

1=You did very little

0=You did none of the assignments; or worse, hindered others from learning

Grades are available online through students. Your password will be distributed next week.

Required Materials:

Pencils and lined paper are necessary throughout the course. A ruler, scientific calculator, and protractor are recommended.

Punctuality:

Maximize your learning by coming on time. If you are late, you will not earn full credit on the Do Now. If you arrive more than 4 minutes late without a pass, you will receive a zero for the day. You are still encouraged to come to enhance your learning.

Missed work:

Make up missed work from the make up book outside of class time. If you cut a class, you will not be able to make up the work.

Tutoring:

Tutoring is available after school on Tuesdays for 40 minutes. This may adjust for school schedules.

Cheating (Representing other’s work as your own):

For class assignments, never copy without understanding; do help each other understand when appropriate.

The first occurrence of cheating on tests results in a zero and parental contact. The second occurrence of cheating will involve the school administration.

Minimizing disruptions:

• Ask for passes when it will not disrupt other students’ learning.

• Sharpen pencils at the beginning of class time.

• Do not eat, use headphones, or primp (combing hair, applying lip balm, etc).

• Throw trash away on your way out of the classroom.

In case of my absence:

Assignments will count as a test grade. Negative notes from the teacher reduce the grade and may also be addressed in other ways.

I look forward to a great year!
