La Misión Permanente de Canadá ante la Organización de los Estados Americanos saluda atentamente a la Secretaría General de la OEA y tiene el honor de presentar, de conformidad con el Artículo III de la Convención Interamericana sobre Transparencia en las Adquisiciones de Armas Convencionales, el informe anual de Canadá sobre importaciones y exportaciones de armas convencionales correspondiente al año 2004.
El Gobierno de Canadá agradecerá a la Secretaría General que, actuando en calidad de depositaria de esta Convención, tenga a bien transmitir el informe de Canadá a todos los Estados Parte de conformidad con el Artículo XIV de la mencionada Convención.
El Gobierno de Canadá también desea aprovechar esta oportunidad para reiterar su apoyo a la resolución de la Asamblea General AG/RES. 2110 (XXXV-O/05) y en particular al párrafo 5, el cual solicita al “Consejo Permanente que, a través de la Comisión de Seguridad Hemisférica, convoque una reunión de los Estados Parte de la Convención, a la que también se invitará a los Estados que no son parte de la Convención, a fin de examinar la implementación de la Convención, considerar actividades dirigidas a promover la firma y ratificación de la Convención y contribuir a la preparación de la primera Conferencia de los Estados Parte, a celebrarse en 2009 de conformidad con el Artículo VIII de la Convención.”
La Misión Permanente de Canadá ante la Organización de los Estados Americanos aprovecha la oportunidad para reiterar a la Secretaría General de la OEA las seguridades de su más alta y distinguida consideración.
