Course Overview

The overall goal of high school physical education is to introduce, and reinforce to students, healthy lifelong wellness habits. We will be participating in a variety of team sports such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, floor hockey, badminton, table tennis, lacrosse, and many others! Students will not be graded on how well they can accomplish each sports, but on their effort to master the skills as best as they are able. With the different sports, we encourage teamwork, cooperation, problem solving, and having a great attitude; skills they will need far beyond high school! Health education will be geared towards CPR/First Aid, consumer health, and learning about disease prevention. Family Life Education is also a component of 9th grade Health.

Grading:

o 50% Health

o 50% Physical Education (20 points per day)

Attendance:

➢ Students are expected to be in class on time and actively involved in class discussions.

➢ Students will be allowed 2 excused absences from PE. More than 2 missed classes will have to be made up during study hall.

➢ We have a strict no cell phone policy in the gym.

➢ During health, students may have the opportunity to use their mobile devices when directed for class work and/or projects.

➢ Students are not permitted to bring their backpacks to PE. Draw string bags are OK.**
