Text: World History: Patterns of Interaction

Attendance: Attendance is required each day, excessive absences or tardies will result in loss of credit

Make-up Work: If a student is going to absent on the day an assignment is due, it is that student’s

responsibility to see that the assignment/project gets to school on the day it is due. If the

student fails to do so then the assignment will be docked 10pts per day that it is late up to

three days, after which time it will be given the grade of a zero (0). If a student is absent

on the day a test or quiz is given, the make-up will consist of an all essay question test or

quiz. No bonus points will be given on make-up work, nor will the student be allowed

to use notes or index cards. The student will have one day to make up work for each day

missed according to BISD policy and the time of the make-up will be 7:00AM.

Projects: There will be several projects during the course of the semester. The most important of

these will be a research project on some aspect of history which will coincide with

a specific topic given by the teacher. There will also be a civilization project, a news

paper , a coat of arms and some type of independent project which the student will create

on his/her own. Each of these projects will count as a minimum of one test grade, but due

to the amount of work required for each they may count as two test each. Obviously then,

if the student fails to do the project there will be no way of passing that specific six weeks.

Journals: Each student must have a journal section to write in each day in class. The topic

will be the thought for the day on the board. (Test grade each six weeks).

Grades: There will be eight grades each six weeks, three major and five minor. The major grades

will be worth 67% of the final total and the minor grades will be worth 33%. At the end

of each semester there will be semester exam that will count as ¼ of the final semester

average.

Notebooks: Each student will be required to keep a notebook with dividers, one for each of the

following areas: class notes, daily grades, test and test equivalent grades, and objectives.

Bonus Points: Five points will be given each day that you are in class on time and do not ask to go to the

restroom. At the end of the six weeks you can use these points on your lowest grades to

bring them up to passing (full credit on a daily grade, half credit on a test grade). Or you

can save them until the end of the semester and apply them to your final at one fourth the

value (So 400 bonus points would give you 100 on the final).

Cell Phones: Cell phones may ONLY be used for research in class with the teacher’s permission.

Anytime they ring, vibrate, or the student is caught using them other than for that reason,

the student will lose 100 bonus points. If you do not have 100 bonus points then your

phone will be confiscated and your mother or father will have to come a get and sign for it.

Rest Room Passes: Any student wishing to leave class and use the rest room will be docked 100 bonus

Points per RR Pass. If you are gone for longer than 5 minutes to the RR you will be

docked another 100 BP for each additional 2 minutes you are out of class. This amount

goes up 100 pts. per six weeks (second six week 200 BP to use the RR, third six weeks

300 BP, etc.)

Miscellaneous: If at any time during the course of the semester, you or your parents have a concern about

anything that is going on in the class or about your grades, please do not hesitate to call

me so that a time may be arranged for us to get together and meet.

NO FLOWERS, BEARS, BALLONS, ETC-for any holiday: Valentines Day,

Birthdays, anniversaries, etc. will be allowed in the classroom at any time.
