WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE SPONSORS BLACK HISTORY MONTH EVENTS IN FEBRUARY

Westchester Community College in Valhalla is presenting several special events to celebrate Black History Month in February. Unless otherwise noted, the events on the main campus at 75 Grasslands Road in Valhalla are free and open to the public. For information, phone the college at 914-606-6700.

*Panel Discussion on Health Issues on Wednesday, February 11 from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. Faculty Dining Room, Student Center. Moderated by Professor Christolyn Williams and Janice Gilroy, RN.

*Literary Readings as part of The Big Read event to promote reading on Tuesday, February 17 at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Clasroom Building, Room 200.

Moderated by Professor Terry Haynes and Cultural Events Director Paula Rubenstein. Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to read passages from the novel A Lesson Before Dying.

*Black Male Student Orientation and Luncheon on Wednesday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. Faculty Dining Room, Student Center

*Panel Discussion with local politicians who will discuss the importance of political awareness in the Black community on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Clasroom Building, Room 200. Moderated by college administrator Dr. Gwendolyn Roundtree-Evans and student Jonathan Nwaru.

* A Taste of Soul Black History Month Luncheon on Tuesday, February 24 at 11:15 a.m. There will be a fee for this event in the Student Center,

Instructional Dining Room.

*Showing of the film A Lesson Before Dying. As part of the The Big Read event to promote reading on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 11:00 a.m. Classroom Building, Room 200.

*Black College Mini-Fair and Panel Discussion on Thursday, February 26. Mini-Fair from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Student Center Lounge.

* Black History Month Ball. Dinner dance with formal attire on Friday evening, February 27. Student Center Dining Hall and Lounge. There will be a fee for this event. Contact: bsuatwestchester@ for ticket information.
