General:

This document assists administrators with creating a set of bootable image DVD’s with diskette.

Procedure:

To Create a set of Bootable Image DVD’s with Diskette

1. You must have DVD burning software and a dvd burner.

2. If you have the capability to burn DVD’s continue, otherwise you will need to contact the BIS Desktop Services to mail you an copy of the image DVD’s.

3. You will 1st need to create the boot diskette that contains the boot files.

4. Double click on the my computer desktop icon, click on Tools and select Map a Network Drive.

5. Insert a diskette into the A: drive, then map to drive \\pwishbgfps23\Images\XPBoot\Desktop\DVD_ROM

6. This will open the DVD_ROM folder. You want to double click on the dvdrom.exe

7. This will start a formatting and writing process.

8. When it is done formatting the diskette, close any open screens.

9. Check the diskette to make sure the autoexec.exe is accessing the correct image file. Double click on the A drive to open the diskette.

10. After verifying that the autoexec.bat has the correct image name entered, you are now ready to use this diskette to create a set of bootable DVD’s

To Create the Bootable DVD’s

11. You will need to map a drive to the images folder \\pwishbgfps23\images\dpw

12. Now open the burning software as shown below

13. This will open the Roxio burning software. From this screen select Data Disc.

14. Click on the Add Data button. This will bring up the “Select files and folders to add” screen. You will need to select the mapped drive that you did in step 11. Make sure that the Look In box has DPW. If not, click on the folder with the green arrow and that will take you to the images root directory from which you can select DPW The current image will create a 2 disc DVD set.

15. On the 1st DVD you need to add the ghost.exe, DPWXPV22.gho and DPWXP001.ghs. Select these and click on the add button.

16. On the 2ndDVD disc you will select the DPWXP002.ghs and DPWXP003.ghs.

17. After you have added the selected files, for the respective disc, you will need to place a blank DVD in the D: drive.

18. Place the boot diskette that you had previously made into the A: drive. Now click on the Make Bootable button.

19. The Bootable disc screen will open.

20. The process will read the information on the boot disk to create a Boot Image file.

21. You are now ready to burn your media. Click on the red button to start the burn process The following box will open, click on yes and the burn process will begin.

22. After the disc is done burning you will have the completion screen appear

23. Click on the done button. This will return you to the screen which has the selected files on.

24. Click on the new project button. At this time the box to save the current data project will open.

25. Click no. The files will be removed and now you will be able to add the files to create the 2nd disc or work on another project.

26. You are now ready to re-image a PC. Place the 1st DVD into the DVD-ROM drive. You will have to select F12 to change the boot sequence to read the CD/DVD drive 1st. If you get an error that the DVD can not be read you will most likely have to go into the bios and edit the drives, sata operation entry and change it to either legacy or on the older models it may say combination. After the last DVD is read the A: prompt should come up. Do a CTR,ALT + DEL and the PC should reboot after which you will proceed with the postload procedures.

Here you will type the information in

step 5.

Right click on autoexec.bat, then select edit

Need to make sure that the autoexec.bat file has the correct image name entered. If not, type in the correct image name, go to file, select save to save the change. Close the open screens.

Make sure that the Bootable floppy disc in A: drive is selected. Click ok.
