Job Title: Assistant Security Technical Support Officer

Grade: HERA Grade 4

Job Holder: New Post

Sub Department: Security Services

Department: Accommodation and Hospitality Services

Responsible to: Head of Security Services (via Security Manager)

Job Purpose: The post holder is responsible to the Head of Security Services, via the Security Manager and Security Technical Support officer [STSO] for the effective and efficient administration of the car parking permit system and pay and display machines, campus and off campus CCTV facilities and access control equipment and other integrated security systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

Overall

1. Be responsible on a day to day basis for the effective administration and development of the below systems:-

• Integrated security systems

• Car Park permit system

• Campus CCTV including portable systems

• Pay and display machines

• Access control systems

2. Provide administrative support to the STSO and security management staff and provide cover the STSO in his/her absence.

Specific

1. Maintain administrative and financial records, constructing reports, using computer and paper-based record systems as appropriate in relation to the above processes.

2. Promote, through consultation, with users and Department staff the overall security access control strategy.

3. Maintain the security access control database of staff and students.

4. Responsibility for access card production for all staff, students and visitors in liaison with the Library access control technical officers.

5. Respond personally and by telephone to customers, who have enquiries and queries in relation to car parking, access control and/or security issues relative to these systems.

1. Operate CCTV surveillance equipment in order to search, edit and prepare images for University staff and other authorities when legally requested and in conjunction with the CCTV Codes of Practice.

2. Coach staff in the use of CCTV to allow them to monitor, search, edit and produce images, issue cards for University staff and other authorities when legally requested.

3. Coach staff in the use of access control and car park permit systems thus allowing them to issue and edit cards and car parking permits.

4. Ensure the University remains compliant with all statutes relative to the above systems e.g. Private Security Industry Act, Data Protection Act, CCTV Codes of practice and other relevant legislation.

5. Any other duty commensurate with the role.

Notes:-

a. The post holder will be expected to work using their own initiative with limited supervision.

b. This is a non uniform post.

c. The role is based on a 36.5 hour week working Monday to Friday.

d. Role holder must be aware of and conform with the relevant Security Standing Operating Procedures [SOP’s]

e. In performing all these duties there is a need for discretion and confidentiality, as well as a need to be able to establish effective working relationships with other members and employees of the University and to present a positive image of the University to outside organisations and their representatives.

f. Must be aware of the existence and contents of the Departmental Plan, its aims and objectives and support those objectives.

g. The post holder must at all times carry out their responsibilities with due regard to the University’s Equality and Diversity Policy.

h. The post holder must respect the confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means in line with the Data Protection Act.

i. The post holder must carry out their responsibilities with due regard to the non-smoking environment of the University
