Job Description & Person SpecificationGrenfell Tower Inquiry Research, Policy & Project Officer 12 Month Fixed Term ContractReports toGeneral Secretary/National Officer (Staffing)Normal Place of Work Bradley House, 68 Coombe Road, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, KT2 7AE.Attendance at meetings at other locations will be required as necessary.Hours of WorkThis role is full time, 34.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. At times, additional working outside of these hours may be necessary for the effective discharge of the role.General Scope and Purpose of RoleTo co-ordinate the FBU’s response to all aspects of the Grenfell Tower fire, working with the General Secretary.This is an extremely high profile and fast-moving project that requires a focussed, flexible and highly responsive approach. The job holder will work collaboratively with a wide range of people at all levels, both within and outside of the FBU and including external bodies and organisations.Key Accountabilities and DutiesTo ensure that the FBU is able to respond in a timely manner to all aspects of the issues arising from the fire. This will involve co-ordinating and assisting with the input of other officials as well as the jobholder’s own work.To work collaboratively with the appropriate FBU officials and/or staff to ensure the relevant people are involved in preparing responses and position statements on the various issues which arise.Carrying out research as necessary and assisting in the preparation of responses, letters, submissions and public comment.Assisting with the response to the Grenfell tower public inquiry.Liaising with other fire and rescue service (or fire sector) ?bodies and organisations.Engaging with the local community and campaigning organisations.Engaging with and responding to FBU legal advisors.Engaging with and responding to FBU members and officials.Engaging as appropriate with the Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade.Undertake other tasks and functions relevant to the role.To act professionally as an employee of the FBU at all times, maintaining appropriate public visibility, and internally as an effective team member.In the absence of colleagues, contribute to the general work of the union in relation to the work of the team/department as required. Remain committed to self-improvement by conducting self-appraisals after all relevant external meetings and assess strengths and weaknesses and address these accordingly. Demonstrate a commitment to improvement by maintaining and developing skills in line with emerging organisational needs.General Duties and ResponsbilitiesTo provide support to the union during its campaigns and/or conferences as may be determined by the line manager or above.To work co-operatively with colleagues, including providing cover during absence relating to the role/Department, as may be requested by the General Secretary or National Official (Staffing).Fulfil the requirements of the Union’s Equal Opportunities Policy and procedures and follow good principles and practices within the context of the job, daily.To undertake any training, and/or other duties as appropriate that are commensurate with the post as may be determined from time to time by the General Secretary, or National Official (Staffing).It should be understood that this job description may change as the Union develops following discussion and agreement with the post holder.?
