Achiltibuie Smokehouse Development Officer

Part Time Position - 19 hours per week

Salary £24,480 -- pro rata; up to 2 years funding available

Coigach Community Development Company (CCDC) is seeking to appoint an energetic and self motivated person to drive forward the development of the community owned Achiltibuie Smokehouse to deliver a real benefit for our community. Working with a number of partners, professionals and contractors you will have excellent organisational and communication skills, and good written English. The work involves working with the local community to assist with the stimulation and evaluation of project ideas; to undertake research on the proposed project ideas; and to participate in planning and development of the smokehouse property with the project management committee and/or project manager.

Experience of securing funding would be desirable. 19 hours per week, some evening and weekend working, some travel to external training courses, seminars or study visits will be required.

The creation of a modern business premises and establishment of one or more new businesses is the expected

project outcome. Job creation, re-employment of former smokehouse staff, and the creation of a popular tourist attraction could make a significant contribution towards the socio-economic wellbeing of Coigach.

Place of work: Achiltibuie Smokehouse in Altandhu (and some home working).

Achiltibuie Smokehouse Development Officer

Context of Job:

Coigach Community Development Company (CCDC) has purchased the vacant Achiltibuie smokehouse after the business relocated to Easter Ross. CCDC wishes to re-develop the building to provide a modern facility for the establishment of one or more new businesses.

Working with a number of partners, professionals and contractors you will have excellent organisational and communication skills; and good written English. The work involves working with the local community to assist with the stimulation and evaluation of project ideas; to undertake research on the proposed project ideas; and to participate in planning and re-development of the smokehouse property with the project management committee and/or project manager.

Key duties/responsibilities of Achiltibuie Smokehouse Development Officer:

1. To work with the local community to assist with the stimulation, evaluation and planning of project ideas

2. Undertake research on the proposed project ideas

3. Participate in planning of the project with the project management committee and/or project manager

4. Provide scheduling proposals to create a project timeline

5. Ensure high standards of record keeping on all activities

6. Keep detailed financial records to assist the management of the project budget

7. Review activities for compliance with company policies and procedures, and funders rules and regulations

8. Become a dependable contact for our partners and funders

9. Assist with the development of a Business Plan for the favoured project proposal

10. Prepare a funding application to fund refurbishment and redevelopment of the smokehouse property

11. Prepare procurement requests for goods/services that require prior approval by management

12. Monitor progress of the project , implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs

13. Interface with architect, contractors, project manager and management committee on project issues

14. Participate in the development of the project, co-ordinating various activities

15. Preparation of annual and other budgets, and conduct periodic budget reviews

16. Assist in or develop any other appropriate project activity the CCDC project manager/ management committee may require

17. Report to Project Manager and/or Project Management Committee; provide regular updates to CCDC

18. Undertake training at seminars and workshops elsewhere in Scotland; undertake study visits that may be required

19. Undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this job.

Education and Experience

Ideally you will be a graduate (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline

Excellent people and communication skills, good written English, IT skills (Word & Excel)

Ability to work independently towards agreed targets

Disciplined approach to record keeping

Experience of submitting and securing funding would be desirable.

Further Job Details

A full time position would be for a total of 38 hours per week with a salary of £24,480; with a holiday entitlement of 28 working days in each complete calendar year, inclusive of statutory and public holidays. The advertised post is a part time position – 19 hours per week; remuneration and entitlement to holidays is pro rata. Up to two years funding is available.
