Date: December 23, 2019 Subject: Federal Form W-4 Changes in Self Service The federal Form W-4 has been significantly changed for 2020. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act caused changes, where allowances are no longer used to calculate federal income tax withholding. Beginning on 1/1/2020, employees making changes to federal withholding must use the new 2020 federal Form W-4 page in Self Service. Required Information in 2020 Refer to IRS Form W-4 for general instructions.

? At a minimum, employees are required to complete steps 1 and 5. ? Steps 2, 3, and 4 should be used only if they apply to the tax payer's situation.

Employees Making W-4 Changes in Self Service

Beginning 1/1/2020, employees who wish to fill out the new federal Form W-4 and/or state withholding for the calendar year 2020 or later, may do so on the W-4 and MWR page in Self Service by

selecting the 2020 or later

button.

This will open the new W-4 Tax Information ? Federal page where information can be submitted.

Employees who wish to make a state withholding adjustment and do not wish to update their federal

Form W-4 withholding information, can do so by selecting the button on the W-4 and MWR page.

State Withholding

Exempt Status

Employees who want to maintain their exempt status from federal income tax for 2020 may claim exempt by entering 2020 in the Claim Exemption field, then selecting the Check box on the W-4 Tax Information ? Federal page.

NOTE: If changing both federal and state withholding on the same day, enter the federal changes first.

Once the box has been checked, select the Submit

button.
