"Meeting the projected demand for talent within Ireland's Financial Services Sector will be one of the biggest issues

for recruiters in 2019."

The Irish Financial Services sector consists of more than 250 of the world's leading financial services companies and employs over 40,000 people. It is an industry that was front and centre of media commentary throughout 2018 as a direct result of its appeal as a post-Brexit base for global financial organisations.

2018 saw up to a 15% increase in live job vacancy numbers for this sector at different stages throughout the year. This led to rising demands for certain skillsets and upward pressure on salaries. As this sector has attracted 25% of all Brexit related company moves to date there is cautious optimism that 2019 will see partial implementation of those plans and we will see further increases in job vacancies for the sector. Meeting the projected demand for talent within Ireland's Financial Services Sector will be one of the biggest issues for recruiters in 2019.

The Financial Services Sector in Ireland has a good track record at attracting overseas talent with almost one fifth of all vacancies in the sector having been filled from abroad in 2018 but lack of housing and increasing rental prices are becoming a growing concern for international talent looking to move to Ireland.

Salaries in 2019

Sigmar Recruitment | Salary Guide 2016

To attract and retain talent, we have seen organisations increase their salaries throughout 2018, particularly in highly skilled areas. We expect this trend to continue into 2019 as salary increases ranging from 10% to 25% for highly skilled jobs have quickly become the norm

as companies struggle to source talent. Furthermore, improved benefit packages coupled with higher salaries have become more of a selling point than career progression for candidates.

The funds industry which has been a jewel in the crown of the financial services sector has maintained growth throughout 2018. Demand for graduates, product specific fund accountants, compliance, risk and depositary professionals has remained high and will continue to do so in 2019 as Brexit planned administrators and asset managers look to open their doors here. With more than 100 UK based asset managers and funds having applied to the Irish Central Bank for authorisation in Ireland, competition for talent looks likely to heat up even further particularly within risk and compliance areas where PreApproved Control Function (PCF) positions are top of the list for new entrants.
