Susan Hoffmann has taught string players in Virginia and New York for the past twenty-one years. Her early training began in the Preparatory School at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA where she studied violin with Eric Rosenblith. From there, she attended Oberlin College and Conservatory earning two Bachelorʼs Degrees in Music Education and in Psychology. She then began teaching strings and conducting orchestras in the Fairfax County Schools in Virginia for four years. Going on to earn her Masterʼs Degree in Violin Performance at West Virginia University, Ms. Hoffmann solidified her love of performing chamber and orchestral music. Having a desire to return closer to her family on the East Coast, she began her seven years of teaching strings and conducting the orchestras in the Bainbridge-Guilford Central Schools and then transferred to teaching in the Union-Endicott School District where she was also chair of the music department for eight years.
Ms. Hoffmann has performed with the Catskill and Utica Symphonies, the Catskill Choral Society and currently enjoys performing with the Binghamton Philharmonic and the Tri-Cities Opera Orchestra. She was also chosen to conduct and teach at the Summer Strings Institute at Ithaca College. In addition, she has served as a member of the board of directors for the Binghamton Youth Symphony and has represented Union Endicott Schools for the Broome County Music Educatorsʼ Association. You can also find her working as an administrator in the BOCES summer school program for Broome County. She is currently a member of the NYSSMA Curriculum Committee where she can offer her string expertise at the state level. More than anything, Ms. Hoffmann enjoys passing her love of music making on to younger generations and she likes nothing more than to hear about the various successes of her former students.
