Kinisimere pursues her dreams at FNU

Suva, Fiji Islands.

Fiji National University (FNU) student Roko Wati Kinisimere departs her home at first light daily to ensure she reaches Nasinu campus on time for her classes.

The 20 year-old who has enrolled in Trade Diploma in Office Administration with the College of Business, Hospitality & Tourism Studies, resides in Lomai village, Waimaro, Naitasiri.

Kinisimere believes perseverance, discipline and commitment are key components in achieving one's dream.

"I knew there would be challenges and sacrifices to make when I was enrolling into FNU. I will be coming in from the village to attend classes every day, so that would mean getting up early to be in school well before class time," said Ms Kinisimere.

"I catch the bus at around 6am and I reach Nasinu after 8am. It's going to be hard, but I will make it work. I have seen many from the village study with FNU and though they had their struggles they now have good jobs and that inspire me," she added.

The soft spoken Kinisimere was all smiles as she explored her new learning environment on Nasinu campus this week.

"My programme is for two years so I have to make sure I stay true to myself and my aim. I hope to graduate and find work in any area of office administration or receptionists. But for now, I need to stay in school and get good grades in this first six months for Semester 1."

Meanwhile, her niece, Watalaita Kalokalo, enrolled in the same programme looks forward to a wonderful year.

"Two of my older sisters studied at FNU and are now both working. I hope to follow in their footsteps and also be successful."

"I'm still trying to get used to the campus and know all the places I will have my classes in. I'm looking forward to the orientation later this week to meet with our lecturers and other students," said Ms Kalokalo.

Orientation for students attending classes on Nasinu, Nasese and Narere campuses will be hosted on Thursday, 8 February at 9am at Nasinu campus.
