|Background and context |
|We are looking for a creative and passionate colleague to join us to contribute to the work of strengthening and building the |
|Educational Leadership, Management and Governance research and teaching cluster in the Department of Education at the University of |
|Bath. This is an open-ended, full-time post with the potential to contribute to the direction of growth of this work. |
|The department currently has leadership, management and governance modules/units incorporated into two master’s courses, a large and|
|thriving educational doctorate and has a growing population of Ph.D. students - the focus is on educational, leadership and |
|management in international and globalised contexts. |
|Our courses are taken by educational professionals from all over the world and we are growing a portfolio of international CPD |
|courses in leadership and management. There is potential to work with existing colleagues in the department to grow and shape this |
|area of work for the right candidate. |
|The Department of Education has a thriving international reputation for teaching and research that develops theory, policy and |
|practice in relation to international education. We offer one undergraduate programme (Education with Psychology) as well as a range|
|of postgraduate taught programmes including: |
|MA TESOL, |
|MA International Education and Globalisation, |
|MA English and a Medium of Instruction, |
|Master of Research |
|MA Education |

|We also have postgraduate research programmes such as the MPhil, PhD and Doctor of Education (EdD). Students and graduates of these |
|programmes constitute a lively world-wide network of educational professionals working across all levels of the education sector and|
|within other governmental and non-governmental organisations. |
|We are looking for a strong academic to contribute expertise to our programmes and bring and grow their own specialist research area|
|within the department. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about research, learning and teaching and who appreciate |
|the value of face-to-face, distance learning and blended learning: who can effectively contribute to teaching in these contexts and |
|to the future pedagogical developments in the department. We also want somebody who works collegially and is keen to participate in|
|the building of a team of researchers and teachers in this field. |
|Job purpose |
|To participate in the leadership, growth and development of a team focusing on educational leaders, management and governance. To |
|conduct research with a high potential for national/international impact and profile. To design, develop and undertake teaching at |
|postgraduate level; supervise postgraduate research students and undertake management and administrative duties commensurate with |
|the role. |
|Main duties and responsibilities |

|1 |Research |
|a |Bring their own area of independent research to the work of the Department of Education ensuring a commitment to the highest |
| |standards of ethics and integrity in research. |
|b |Participate in and lead independent and\or collaborative research projects. |
|c |Identify sources of funding and secure funding for own research programme. |
|d |Building on their existing track record of publications in leading academic journals. |
|e |Present research at national and/or international conferences and/ or at other appropriate events. |
|f |Supervise doctoral research students as required. |
|g |Engage effectively in non-academic impact of research, including substantial knowledge or technology exchange and/or public |
| |engagement activities, involving a range of partnerships with external organisations. |
|2 |Teaching |
|a |Lead and contribute to the development of programmes and units. |
|b |Design, plan and implement effective and inclusive teaching to contribute to the growth of the departments existing offer and |
| |support existing activities. |
|c |Teach across a range of modules/units or within a subject area using appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment |
| |methods and technologies. |
|d |Assess the work and progress of students and provide them with constructive feedback. |
|e |Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback. |
|f |Develop ideas for improving the learning environment, teaching and/or assessment and feedback methods. |
|g |Engage in professional development in relation to teaching, learning and assessment, including the use of an evidence-informed|
| |approach, which utilises the outcomes of research and scholarship, to enhance practice. |
|h |Contribute to Widening Participation activity, engaging with potential student bodies and the decolonisation and development |
| |of greater social justice across curricula, pedagogic approaches and |
|3 |Leadership, management and administration |
|a |Undertake internal roles of responsibility e.g. leading research, teaching, contributing to committees and working parties. |
|b |Advise and support colleagues with less experience and support academic and personal development. |
|c |Participate in internal initiatives/events to the benefit of the University e.g. open days, summer and winter school, CPD |
| |initiatives and student placements. |
|d |Act as supervisor for the work of others, for example, research teams or projects or as PhD supervisor. |
