WRITING COMPETITION FOR ACTELA'S ARKANSAS ANTHOLOGY

ARKANSAS COUNCIL OF TEACHERS OF ENGLISH AND LANGUAGE ARTS (ACTELA)
CATEGORIES: Short Story (maximum 1,500 words)
Essay (maximum 500 words)
Personal Narrative (first person, maximum 500 words)
Descriptive Paragraph
Poetry
AGE GROUPS: K-12 with proportionate representation
Teachers may also submit their own works.
FILLERS: Descriptive sentences may be submitted as "fillers."
ENTRY FEE: $2 for each entry. Up to 5 "fillers" for a $2 entry.
Make checks payable to ACTELA. No fees will be returned.
FORMAT: Entries must be typed, double-spaced. Poems may be single-spaced.
Each entry must include this statement, signed by student and parent/guardian:
"This is my original work. I grant permission to publish it if it is a winning entry."
DEADLINE: Entries should be postmarked no later than January 15.

WINNERS: Approximately 50 winners will have their work published in the ARKANSAS ANTHOLOGY 2000, an ACTELA collection of writings.
Winners will be announced by letter and by press release by February 19.
Winners will receive a copy of ARKANSAS ANTHOLOGY 2000 and may be invited to public readings of their works.
