|Briefly (1 or 2 sentences) describe the position's organizational setting and major functions. |

|Under the administrative direction of the Deputy Superintendent of the Opportunities for All Branch, the Multilingual Support Division Director (MSD Director) provides |

|leadership in policy development and program administration for the advancement of English learner educational programs of the California Department of Education (CDE). |

|The MSD Director plans, coordinates, and directs the activities of Division administrators and staff to provide technical assistance. The MSD Director will help develop |

|language policies, disseminate policies and program concepts through leadership efforts, administer all specialized programs focused on English language learners, and |

|establish accountability efforts to ensure educational goals are being met. The MSD Director provides leadership and assistance to educational entities, the federal |

|government, the Legislature, legislative staff, local educational agencies, State Board of Education, assistance to educational entities general public, businesses, and |

|community organizations statewide. |

| |Supervise and coordinate the work of the MSD including direct supervision for staff and directing professional staff responsible for: |

|40% |Providing leadership, coordination, and technical assistance to local educational agencies regarding assigned programs |

| |Advising school districts on state and federal efforts to organize, create, and support systemic statewide strategies in K–12 education, with |

| |connections to state preschool and special education |

| |Providing support services and programs for the widest variety of diverse student learning styles and modalities pertaining to Common Core State |

| |Standards and Next Generation Science Standards |

| |Advising staff, local educational agencies, advanced training agencies, and/or business interests on educational strategies, options, and opportunities |

| |for youth, adults, and drop-outs |

| |Establishing operational procedures consistent with state, federal, and local educational program needs and requirements, and developing or interpreting|

| |legislation and other applicable regulations |

| |Leading the development and implementation of statewide and departmental policies and practices for English and multilingual learners |

| |Oversee programmatic, fiscal, technology support, and human resources functions critical to the operations of the Division to achieve management |

|25% |objectives within appropriate timelines. Manage, direct, and decide issues which impact the direct allocation of state and federal funds for a variety |

| |of related programs and systems. Provide oversight of all grants and contracts issued by the Division. |

| |local educational agencies, associations, and other constituent groups. Provide leadership in initiating statutory changes and new solutions and |

| |processes. Ensure that appropriate and cooperative contacts are maintained with public, private, governmental, professional, and business entities. |
