PTA COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONSPrograms and Projects:Back to School Night (BTSN): Plan and implement with a team the BTSN activities. This includes updating and ordering the BTSN form, purchasing concession items, securing volunteers for concessions and merchandise lines, setup, clean up, tallying BTSN forms for financial recordkeeping purposes, as well as being available or securing volunteers to be available to sell BTSN items in the morning the first week of school. Breakfast Club: Plan and implement with a team the two Breakfast Club events: Moms in the Morning and Dads and Donuts. These social events are designed to allow you to enjoy a sweet treat with your student while meeting their friends and parents. Moms in the Morning is generally in the morning before school from approximately 8:30a to 9:15a, while Dads and Donuts occurs in the evening from approximately 6p-8p. Responsibilities include purchasing donuts (or other sweet treat) and beverages, as well as set up, clean up and securing volunteers to help serve the items during the event. Family Fun Night/Movie Night: The goal of this committee is to provide a fun, social event for the whole family at the school. This committee will plan a movie night or other activity at the school. Duties include coordinating with school administration for approval of the activity, date, time and location, planning a menu and purchasing supplies for the event, advertising through the Thursday Folder and PTA FB page, and securing volunteers for the event including set up and tear down. For movies, movie license and rental must be coordinated. Class Activity Days: Plan and implement with other homeroom parents the Fall and Spring parties. This includes developing a theme, purchasing supplies, securing volunteers for party day, set up, clean up, and communication with other parents regarding the party. Class parties are generally held in the afternoons from 2:15p-3:15p. Morning Pre-K/K class parties are generally held from 9:45a-10:45a. Times are subject to availability of cafeteria. Party dates are determined on a yearly basis.Reflections: The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts. The goal of the Reflections Committee is to present the National Reflections program to all students at Wayland Bonds and encourage creativity in all six of the arts’ areas. In addition, the committee plans the Reflections Ceremony and prepares the winning entries for districts and state competitions. This is accomplished by:Establishing a timeline and publicizing the deadline for the Reflections ProgramEnlisting the help of the Art Teacher to promote the programDevelop flyer announcing the theme, timeline and committee contact informationSecuring judges for each of the six art categoriesDesignate a place for collection of entriesPrepare winning entries for district and state judging within the district deadlinePlan Reflections Awards program and secure venuePurchase trophiesCreate and send invitations to students, family and school facultyCreate evening program handoutSuper Kids Day: Plan and implement with a team the Super Kids Day activities. Super Kids Day is a fun outdoor day near the end of the school year. Duties include coordinating with P.E. teacher(s) to plan games, reserving games to be rented, and securing volunteers for concessions and the activities that require supervision. It also includes purchasing supplies for concessions as well as set up, clean up and coordinating with upper grades to “partner” older students with Pre-K/Kindergarten students for safety measures. Sixth Grade Projects: Plan and implement with a team the special end-of-year 6th grade activities including 6th grade cookout, awards night, and last day of school party. This would entail purchasing and/or securing donations of food and supplies as well as securing the location and volunteers for each of these events. Past years have produced a memory DVD for each 6th grader and have also taken individual 6th grade class pictures, which are framed and matted for the teachers. Outreach:Thunder Night: Plan and implement the Bonds Thunder Night to see an OKC Thunder basketball game. This includes being the liaison with Thunder management, advertising Thunder night to the school, securing the tickets, securing volunteers for ticket sales and coordinating with Thunder management on any special activities the night of the game. Counselor Programs: The goal of this committee is to assist the Wayland Bonds School Counselor with the Kids of Character Program and any other programs that he/she may initiate. Kids of Character is a program designed to promote good citizenship at Bonds Elementary as well as in students’ everyday lives. This character education program focuses on a specific character trait each month and the guidance lessons for 1st through 6th grades will center around that trait. Each month students that exhibit an exceptional display of the designated character trait will be recognized. Students are nominated by their teachers and are recognized with a certificate, special passes and certificates to be used during the school year, and free recess with the counselor. Thoughout Red Ribbon Week, daily activities related to the theme of the week are coordinated for students to become aware of the importance of saying NO to drugs. The week ends with the annual Red Ribbon event, generally held on a Saturday morning. Committee will meet with the Counselor to plan activities for the week, advertise Red Ribbon week in the school newsletter, and send information home to students via Thursday Folder.Bronco Mascot: Attends monthly stampedes and any other events fit for a Mascot.Media, AR & Book Fair: Plan and implement with a team the Scholastic Book Fair. This includes being the liaison with Scholastic, planning and/or implementing a theme, securing and scheduling volunteers to be shoppers with students, scheduling the class visits to the library for the Book Fair, and setup and cleanup. Book Fair generally occurs in September and February, runs for 6 days each time and is open during school hours as well as during Moms in the Morning, Grandparents Night, and Dads & Donuts After Dark.Membership: Plan and implement with a team the membership drive for PTA. This includes coordinating with BTSN for sale of memberships at BTSN, recordkeeping for memberships, coordinating with Treasurer and President for payment and reporting of memberships to OKPTA, and planning incentives for 100% classroom memberships.EPI School Supplies: The goal of the EPI School Supply committee is to allow parents the option to pre-order packaged school supplies for the following school year. Responsibilities include the following:Advertise through the Thursday Folder the information needed to pre-order school supplies for the following yearPrior to BTSN, print student order list from EPI.Unpack and organize supply packages by grade level and genderLabel packages with students’ names according to list provided by EPIOrganize distribution of packages to students. Teacher Appreciation: The goal of the Teacher Appreciation committee is to plan activities that demonstrate appreciation for our teachers and staff members. The committee will be responsible for planning the following activities:Welcome Back Breakfast/LunchParent Teacher Conference dinners (light meal)Winter Warm-Up Lunch (prior to Winter Break)Special treat for school administration for Professional Administration Day in AprilPlan a treat for Custodial/Cafeteria StaffCoordinate and execute a week in May dedicated to teacher appreciation for students to participate in, including teacher treats and a catered luncheon at the close of the weekPurchase calendar covers/refills for teachers/staffSecure volunteers/donations for luncheon and dinner items and for decoration, set up, tear down for eventsCommunications:Bonds Board: The goal of this committee is to update and decorate the calendar on the wall outside the cafeteria on a monthly basis. The calendar will list upcoming events per the Principal and the PTA Co-Presidents. Any pertinent information for students and parents will be listed as well as highlighting our business sponsors. Volunteer Database: Produce the volunteer database. This includes collecting contact information from BTSN forms, data entry of all contact information, copying and distribution of the database information, and ongoing maintenance of the database information.Picture Day/Thanksgiving Feast: The goal of this committee is to secure volunteers to help facilitate the smooth running of picture days, and to secure volunteers to assist in the cafeteria line on the day of the Thanksgiving Feast. Newsletter: Produce the monthly PTA newsletter. This includes coordinating with administration and chairs and co-chairs for newsletter items, setting deadline for receipt of such items, typesetting the newsletter and copying for distribution. It also includes coordinating with the Thursday folder team for distribution.Teacher Representative: This person acts as a liaison between the teaching staff and PTA. This position is held by a teacher or staff member. Thursday Folders: The Thursday folder communication system keeps parents informed of all the different activities and events occurring at school, in the Moore School District, as well as the surrounding community. All Thursday Folder items require approval by the Principal and, in some cases, the District Administration, prior to being distributed to students. Responsibilities of this committee include securing weekly volunteers to compile the Thursday folder content for the week and distributing the appropriate number of copies to the teacher mailboxes. This committee meets weekly on Wednesday mornings in the teacher workroom at 9:00 a.m.Parliamentarian: The goal of Parliamentarian is to ensure Officers and Chairmen are aware of PTA By-Laws and Standing Rules.Fundraising:Box Tops: The goal of the Box Tops Committee is to raise money for our school by encouraging Bond families and friends to cut and collect Box Tops from participating products. Proceeds support Bonds PTA sponsored activities. Responsibilities include advertising the program through the Thursday Folder, FB and at school events, encouraging participation by offering an incentive for top classroom, set deadlines for collection turn-in and counting, secure volunteers to count, mailing the Box Tops to Box Tops for Education within set deadlines. School Clothing: Responsibilities include selecting designs for school t-shirts and any other clothing or merchandise. Coordinate with vendor for purchase and production of merchandise. Coordinate with BTSN committee regarding sale of merchandise at BTSN and the first week of school. Secure volunteers for sale of merchandise at school events such as Moms in the Morning and Grandparents night. Popcorn Day: The purpose of this is to provide the student body a monthly snack. Ideally, Popcorn Day will be the 2nd Friday of each month. Parents have the option to pre-pay on BTSN. Responsibilities include collecting data from BTSN forms to get a count of students for Popcorn Day, sending reminder notes home via Thursday Folder about upcoming Popcorn Day, setting up and preparing popcorn as well as organizing the distribution of popcorn and cleaning the popcorn machine each time. Bonds Food Night: This is a way for our school to raise money by encouraging Wayland Bonds Students and their families to eat at local food establishments who, in turn, donate a percentage of their profits back to the school. This committee coordinates with area businesses to set aside a monthly date for Bonds patrons, decide on an incentive program for top classroom and advertises through the Thursday Folder, FB and other avenues. This committee is also responsible for collecting the payment from the vendors and ensuring that the incentives are received. ................
