Shapes and the Coordinate
System Lesson Plan
Objectives
• Learn about the Cartesian plane and the coordinate system
• Ordered pairs can be used to designate location on the coordinate system
• Shapes can be made by connecting ordered pairs with line segments
• Different things can be done to shapes, such as rotation, translation, reflection, and dilation, to change their position on the coordinate system.
Lesson Overview
This lesson should take about 1 to 2 class periods. The class periods should be spent going through the Shapes and Coordinate System PowerPoint. This PowerPoint could take two days because it involves practicing plotting ordered pairs, shapes, and the motion of shapes on a coordinate system. This is why each student should have a Coordinate System that they should be using to do the exercises during the PowerPoint.
