School Council Update

The October Council Meeting was held after the successful Family Arts Nite on October 30th. After quick updates from students, staff and admin, we brainstormed ideas for RCI's Open House this Tuesday, November 7th. Make sure to invite your friends and neighbours who are looking at high schools this year. Let them know Runnymede is a great choice!!

RUSTCO (Student Council) Is looking for venue options for the Semi-Formal in February. If you have any contacts or ideas for an affordable place for our students to have their dance, please contact Carlotta Lovell at carlotta.lovell@tdsb.on.ca

Cheer is looking for sponsor companies to help fund their competitions. The Cheer Club supports many of RCI's athletic teams and is one of the hardest working groups. Please email Christina.kemp@tdsb.on.ca if you can help!

Athletics, Health and Phys Ed Update (Kristina Kotsopoulos, ACL HPE)

Boys Football: Undefeated in the developmental league.

Cross Country: Eight of RCI's runners advanced to the City Finals, Joel Duff won a silver medal at the Regional and City Championships and is competing at OFSAA on November 4th. Good luck Joel!

Girls Basketball: RCI has advanced to the Tier 2 West Final and will play on Monday, Nov. 6th at West Humber CI

Cheer: This hardworking group has performed at all the football home games and did a great job!.

Next season will include Boys Basketball, Girls Volleyball, Swimming and Boys Indoor Soccer.

Right to Play finishes their first term where 20 student leaders led an afterschool play program for 60 George Syme students grade 1-5. Our final day will be marked by visiting Executives from the Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund who last year, awarded $50, 000 in scholarships to 5 of our students. It will also be attended by local government officials, the Blue Jays mascot Ace and a former Toronto Maple Leaf.

Albion Hills weekend to train the leaders took place the last weekend of October. 60 students will be attending the Leadership Camp from December 15-17.

RAC has been seeing to the running of our Athletics programs by scoring and working as linespeople, as well as posting highlights to our social media, spreading positive vibes to our school and community with our sidewalk chalk messages and updating the display cases in front of the large gym.

Indigenous Education Month, which provides an opportunity to centre Indigenous perspectives, histories and current contexts. Learn more about this month and the important events we are recognizing throughout. ? Reminder - Share Your Voice: The Enhancing Equity Task Force invites you to read and comment on their draft recommendations on improving access and achievement for all students in the TDSB. Feedback is welcome until November 20. ? Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week: Providing safe, inclusive and positive spaces accepting of all students is a priority in the TDSB. Learn more about how we're making our schools safe. ? High School Information Nights: Starting in November, TDSB high schools will host Information Nights to help students and parents/guardians learn more about our incredible variety of schools, programs and courses. ? Early French Immersion Program: The application process for the Early French Immersion program opened on October 30 and the deadline is November 30, 2017. Applications are made the year a child is in Junior Kindergarten (or is of Junior Kindergarten age) for entry in Senior Kindergarten. It is an entirely online process. ? Parents Make a Difference Conference: Registration is now open for the 11th annual PIAC Parents Make a Difference conference. The event is on Saturday, November 25 and includes workshops, opportunities to connect with staff, parents and local agencies, and more. ? United Way Campaign: From November 1 to December 31, the TDSB will be running its annual United Way Campaign to help make a difference in our communities. There will be many events and activities throughout the campaign and you can follow along on social media with the hashtag #TDSBUnitedWay. ? Trustee Ward Boundary Review: The TDSB is undertaking a Trustee Ward Boundary Review to align with the new City of Toronto wards recently enacted by Toronto City Council. Members of the public are invited to provide feedback on the proposed options through public meetings and an online survey. ? Transportation Portal: Are you a parent/guardian of a child who takes the bus to school? Sign up now for the Transportation Portal to access your child's transportation information online and receive email notifications of bus delays and cancellations. ? Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) Survey: If you are a parent/guardian of a current or former TDSB student with special needs, SEAC would like to hear about your experiences and ideas as they make recommendations on how to improve Special Education at the TDSB. Complete the SEAC Survey.
