Dear Students, Parents and Guardians:

On Thursday, October 1, 2015 , students and staff at Runnymede Public School are invited to participate in the Terry Fox School Run Day as 3 million other children across Canada have. This year will be Runnymede's 11th consecutive fundraising run. Students and their families are encouraged to contribute to this important event. The run times are:

9:20 AM for Kindergartens (in the Adventure Yard) 9:20 AM for Primary classes (Runnymede Track), 10:00 AM for Junior classes (School Perimeter), and 10:45 AM for Senior classes (School Perimeter).

During the run, boys and girls will be bearing "I'm Running For" stickers on which they can memorialize dearly departed loved ones or those still locked in the fight against cancer. Our own school has been touched by this disease with the heartbreaking passing of Alex Shapiro, a grade six student, in the very recent past. We ask this year for students to join in wearing the colour Red on the run day in his memory.

We will run or walk for two laps on the track or sidewalk around the school. Parents interested in volunteering can meet Ms. Dennis, Ms. Intarakosit and Ms. Wawrow at the flag pole for route supervision prior to the times shown above. This is a rain or shine event and students are advised to dress for the weather. If students have rain boots, rain jackets and umbrellas, they are still able to participate as walkers in the event. For safety reasons we would postpone the run in the event of thunder and lightning.

In the past we have asked students to donate Toonies for Terry. We more than matched last year's goal of $14 000. Our school was a top three school in Ontario in 2014, raising $22 622! Many thanks to the community! Receipts will be processed by the Foundation for contributions of $20.00 or more if the pledge is made online.

SchoolRun/ This year we are unable to provide a receipt for cash donations. Students are encourage to bring in a "TOONIE" for Terry on the day of the run.

Students interested in more information are invited to visit the Official Foundation site at or read recent publications such as Douglas Coupland's pictorial book "Terry", Maxine Trottier's book "Terry Fox: A Story of Hope" or Eric Walters' novel "Run". We hope all students can take part in this special event in some way. Thank you very much for your past and continuing support of this important event. Go Runnymede Go!

Yours in partnership,

Amelia Dennis Karen Duke
